SUPPORT POSITIONS: Job Description
Our team of support staff provides support to bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff in a collective effort to ensure that our guests have an extraordinary experience and that daily operations run smoothly. Compensation includes hourly wage and may include tips.
Responsibilities
HOST – engagement & direction
The host greets our guests at the door, determines the size of their party, answers questions and shows them to their table. This is the guest’s first experience with our restaurant and a friendly, organized host makes sure it’s a good one. A great host understands that the moment a guest enters our place it sets the tone for the restaurant and the rest of the experience. Our hosts are maestros – orchestrating a comfortable flow of the restaurant for staff and guests alike.
· Maintain entry to the restaurant ensuring it is orderly and inviting
· Manage and organize reservations to maximize time and space and avoid confusion
· Maintain the menus
· Make sure families with young children get extra attention as well as the elderly
· Greet guests, escort them to their table, pull seat out for the ladies, present menus – attentively
· Coordinate with servers to ensure guest is greeted in a timely manner
· Confirm that neither servers nor kitchen is being overwhelmed
· Back up the kitchen and servers as necessary by running food and/or bussing tables
· Keep an eye out that the dining room, entryway, bathrooms, and menus are kept clean
· Say good-bye and thank you to all guests – check to see that everything was wonderful. Not only is the host the first impression our guest gets when they come in, our hosts are also the last when they leave.
RUNNER – speed & accuracy
The food runner delivers fresh, delicious looking plates of food to the right guest at the right table – taking the time to insure everything is perfect before leaving the table. This is the guest’s first experience with our food and a helpful, attentive food runner makes sure it’s a good one. A great food runner understands that slowing down at the tableside shows our guests that they are important and receiving the best service from our entire team.
*Check in and set up kitchen service area to include expo line and soda station
*Become fluent in our menu items, what accompanies them, and allergy information
*Support servers by assisting them with delivery of food orders efficiently and accurately while
naming the menu items as they are presented to each guest
*Retrieve any supplies, condiments, etc that server or guest may require
*Remove any discarded glass or service ware
*Be able to carry three plates expertly, and if more than 3 plates – use a tray and tray jack stand
BUS – efficiency & spotlessness
Our bussers work tirelessly on the restaurant floor to ensure all spaces are guest ready at all times in all ways. Our busser is a quiet and hyper-aware team player who remains diligent in their efficient ability to turn tables whether it’s a slow afternoon or a rockin’ night. A great busser understands they are responsible for all areas of the restaurant from floor to ceiling in terms of cleanliness and thus, should spend the majority of their time on the floor.
+Assist the servers with table setting by cleaning and placing appropriate tableware, roll-ups,
any promotional literature and/or other table décor
+ Prepare dining room for guests by cleaning/setting tables and stocking all necessary supplies
prior to the beginning of service
+Provide refills of water and attend to guest requests
+Maintain clean tables by removing finished courses, utensils and empty glasses
+Maintain common areas and floors including bathrooms and side stations, dish pit, as required
BAR BACK – strong supporters
Our energetic barbacks provide support to bartenders to ensure that the bartenders have time for engaging in guest interactions that lead to an extraordinary overall experience. A great bar back understands their attitude and flow behind the bar affects guests and bartenders alike.
EXPO – accuracy & communication
Our expos act as the contact point between Front of the House and Back of the House staff regarding all kitchen orders. A great expo understands that plates that are visually appealing at the right temperature are of the utmost importance, as is effective communication and organization on the line.
§ Check in and set up kitchen service area to include expo line and soda station
§ Become fluent in our menu items, what accompanies them, allergy information
§ Communicate food orders requiring special attention to BOH (priorities, special requests, food allergies)
§ Watch tickets, call out orders, check plate accuracy, manage 86’d items in POS
§ Ensure that food is served in accordance with safety standards (e.g. proper temperature)
§ Organize orders and provide proper placement on trays for accurate food running/delivery
§ Enforce protocols/rules for staff
Requirements
ü 16 years of age or older (18 for bar back)
ü Must own and use a mobile phone
ü Excellent communication skills including basic computer skills and email
ü Fluent in English
ü Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
ü Positive, engaging personality and professional appearance
ü Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time
ü Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. up and down a staircase
