Overview
Posting SummaryRutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an attentive, reliable and customer-service oriented Accounting Assistant I for Payroll Services. Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, this position processes weekly payroll, sets up the PDF files in the system and the transmission to banks, and produces the Check and Direct Deposit Registers.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Monitors the check registers for any abnormalities.
- Assists with locating missing paychecks; placing stops or reissuing paychecks.
- Uploads inbound interfaces from various departments.
- Responds to walk-in clients and telephone inquiries.
- Assist departments with any general payroll-related questions.
- Provides timely and professional customer services at all times.
- Works effectively in a team environment and is flexible to changing priorities.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years’ experience in a payroll or banking operation; knowledge of and experience with payroll systems and direct deposit are strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft and Oracle Finance cloud preferred

- Ability to lift and bend, to be able to move boxes of paychecks in and out of safe.
