Position Description:
SUMMARY
An AMT Staff Software Engineer designs and develops new software and maintains existing software systems composed of software applications and services that run on a variety of platforms including desktop and server computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems as well as AMT-designed instruments for ORTEC, Solartron, Princeton Applied Research, Signal Recovery, and similar brands. An AMT Staff Software Engineer is expected to have significant knowledge and experience designing and developing software for data acquisition systems that interface with a variety of sensing technologies. They should have demonstrated successful technical leadership for modules and subsystems that make up such complex systems. Strong soft skills such as teamwork, collaboration, communication, decision making, and influencing people are also essential to success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Works effectively in a cross-discipline, globally dispersed engineering team
• Designs and implements software that must be extensible, maintainable, and testable
• Provides technical leadership for assigned modules and subsystems
• Takes an agile approach to software development
• Authors and maintains technical requirements, design, and similar documentation as necessary
• Provides input about new technology and tools
• Works effectively with vendors and outsource partners
• Supports products indirectly by working with other departments such as Product Support, Product Management, Manufacturing, etc.
• Works within the AMT Engineering Product Development Process
• Continuously improves skills and stays current with latest technologies, design patterns, etc.
Position Requirements:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• Eight (8) years applicable experience
• Proficiency with the following programming languages / technologies / techniques:
o C# and C++
o Software design and programming targeting Windows operating systems
o Developing software for data acquisition systems that interface with a variety of sensing technologies
o Communications over a variety of ports and protocols including USB, Ethernet, Wireless, etc.
o Configuration management tools such as SVN, Git, TFS, etc.
o Software development of servers/services (Windows services, web services, etc.)
o Software development using multi-threading
o Agile / Scrum software development lifecycle
Desired Skills
• Proficiency with many of the following programming languages/technologies / processes:
o HTML-5, Javascript (Angular or React), C, LabView, MATLAB, Visual Basic, Fortran
o Software design, and programming targeting embedded Linux-based operating systems
o Programming targeting mobile operating systems (iOS, Android, etc.)
o CI / CD, DevOps
o Secure software development
o Experience in nuclear instrumentation design and development
o Experience in electrochemical instrumentation design and development
