This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This job is located in the Communications 911 Division of the Police Department and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. However, an eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies in the department, per provisions of the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. The 911 Dispatcher II serves as a telephone communication link between the calling party and units in the field and is responsible for administering technical training programs. Essential job functions include: presentation of work unit training program information and materials, demonstrating proper work methods and procedures, maintaining appropriate training records and documentation, and evaluating employee progress toward meeting established training objectives. The employee is also responsible for accurately and efficiently receiving and transmitting information via telephone and through the Computer Aided Dispatch Data Network; input and/or retrieval of information concerning emergency and non-emergency situations; recording information obtained from callers by typing information into a computer via a computer aided dispatch screen and keyboard; routing calls to appropriate dispatch consoles; monitoring calls to ensure dispatch of support agencies; dispatching emergency and non-emergency vehicles to reported trouble locations; and monitoring frequencies in order to respond to field unit status reports and requests for assistance. Work is reviewed through continual visual observation and through audible monitoring by the supervisor.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS
Inside at all times in a climate-controlled environment where the temperature remains between 60 degrees and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Exposure to continuous noise at low levels produced by other dispatch personnel, computer terminals, and climate control equipment.
Frequent stress from activity levels and nature of calls received.
Required to work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Shift assignments are subject to change.
Subject to 24-hour emergency call.
NOTE: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Arm-hand steadiness and manual/finger dexterity enough to use equipment such as a computer keyboards, telephones, etc.
Near vision enough to read computer screen and written communication such as memos and information from supervisor.
Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly by telephone, radio and in person in a semi-noisy environment created by other dispatchers, equipment, etc.
Subject to sitting, standing, telephone usage, etc., for prolonged periods of time.

NOTE: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better. Multiple selection procedures may be utilized; a minimum of 70 percent or better will be required on each; and the results of multiple selection procedures will be equally weighted. The eligibility list will be in effect for 180 days from the date of the final selection procedure and will be used to fill future vacancies.
NOTE: This position requires documentation of typing 35 accurate words per minute on a 5-minute timed test. At the time of application, a written document verifying typing skill of 35 accurate words per minute on a 5-minute timed within the past 12 months from a recognized employment agency or placement office, etc. must be submitted. Your typing test results must be attached when you submit your application, unless you are currently in a full-time City position that requires typing skill of 35 wpm. Online typing tests are not accepted. Typing scores are subject to verification.
