Notice is hereby given that Huerfano County is accepting applications for a Cattle Guard Maintenance position for Road and Bridge. This is a full-time seasonal position at 40 hours per week; $17.00 an hour, approximately from May 2022 to October 31, 2022, and is eligible for sick leave benefits only.
Perform basic tasks including cattle guard installation and cleaning, guardrail installation and repair, fence installation and repair, welding and other maintenance, and keeping the shop clean and organized. High school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid unrestricted Colorado Driver’s License. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen with negative results and a criminal background check

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Cattle Guard/Maintenance
FLSA: Non-Exempt
DEPT: Road and Bridge
REPORTS TO: Road and Bridge Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:
Perform basic tasks including cattle guard installation and cleaning, guardrail installation and repair, fence installation and repair, welding and other maintenance, and keeping the shop clean and organized.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs heavy physical labor for extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions, including activities and physical demands requiring strength to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise move objects of up to 50 pounds regularly.
Builds, installs, maintains, and repairs metal structures such as fences, cattle guards, and cattle guard foundations on county roadways.
Perform welding, participate in-shop maintenance and clean up.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Work well with others in understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions under the supervision of the Road and Bridge Supervisor, Shop Foreman, or higher grade personnel while following safe operating practices, rules and procedures.
Ability to work with minimal direction.
TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED. Must possess a valid unrestricted Colorado Driver’s License. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen with negative results and a criminal background check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to withstand extended exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Must be able to lift and or move up to 50 pounds, is occasionally required to exert up to 100 pounds of force. The employee is routinely required to work with the hands in handling, seizing, holding, or grasping motions and picking or pinching actions to operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, hear, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl.
