Friendship Place is nonprofit organization, serving the Washington, DC region, empowering individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness to rebuild their lives with the involvement of the community. Friendship Place offers the most effective model for addressing homelessness, with innovative, customized programs that have positive, demonstrable results and a lasting impact on the community and beyond. Our programs are person-centric and individualized to meet the needs and goals of individuals, families, youth/young adults and Veterans experiencing homelessness. Summary:
To perform required day to day accounting duties and other tasks supporting the needs of the finance department.
Responsibilities:
Reviews and processes check requests and prepares some invoices ensuring appropriate documentation and approval.
Charges expenses to account and cost centers by analyzing invoices and recording entries on the general ledger.
May process payroll as a backup only.
Prepares journal entries
Performs accounting reconciliation of department receipts against banks statements within the GL.
Conducts research and analysis of accounting data, and processes as needed
Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
Creates reports, enters data and performs ad hoc analyses for financial purposes as needed
Maintains financial security by following internal controls and following the financial manual.
Prepares payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements.
Maintains confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Performs other duties as needed
Requirements
Background & Qualifications:

Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office functions with an advanced emphasis in Excel.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
At least two years of full-time accounting experience (accounts payable and/or accounts receivable).
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Typical office conditions. Incumbent is required to sit for extended periods of time
Extended use of a computer.

Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $24.00 – $30.00 per hour. Depending on the position, the starting hourly pay rate or annual salary is based on a step system. A candidate’s starting pay determination is made based on meeting the basic position requirements, and current completed education, credentials and/or work experience. Please Note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation. Before moving forward in the selection process, interested applicants are encouraged to discuss starting pay eligibility with the Human Resources (Talent) Department.
