Position Summary

The person filling this role is expected to have strong interpersonal and decision-making skills, the ability to think critically and creatively, and have a comprehensive knowledge of technical accounting (US GAAP) and external (SEC) reporting.

This position reports to the Manager of Technical Accounting and Reporting and will be a key contributor to the Company’s technical accounting and external financial reporting processes. The candidate should have public accounting experience (hands on involvement with SEC reporting a plus). Experience working in industry in a similar role is a big plus. The position will be one of the primary contacts in dealing with the outside auditors as it pertains to the audit, financial statement drafting, and internal controls testing and will work with the Manager of Technical Accounting and Reporting and Corporate Controller on all SEC and compliance related matters.

It is expected that the candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting standards, SEC reporting requirements and internal reporting as well as the Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements and exhibit excellent project management skills and proactively anticipate and react to changes in rules and schedules. Knowledge of accounting for areas of Debt, Hedging, Stock Compensation, Pensions and other Postretirement Benefits preferred. The position will work with the various Chase employees and teams within and outside of the Accounting/Finance function to ensure completeness and timeless of reporting and disclosures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Additional Responsibilities as Assigned)

• Contributing member of the team in charge of the annual external reporting calendar (10-Q’s, 10-K, Proxy, 8-k’s, Form 4’s, Form SD, etc.). This is an application-level role, which will be involved in all aspects of the process.
• Collaborate with Finance team members in providing accounting guidance on complex transactions, including but not limited to: revenue recognition, business combination, collaborations, fixed assets, impairment, debt and equity financing, stock compensation, leases, and various post retirement plans (pensions, 401-k, etc.).
• Ability to perform technical accounting research and prepare appropriate white papers to document (including analysis, relevant literature, and conclusions) the proper accounting treatment for significant new contracts.
• Stay abreast of existing and emerging financial accounting and reporting principles, assessing their applicability to Chase and developing action plans for adoption when needed.
• Establish and manage the continuous review and update of Chase’s accounting policies.
• Assist in the preparation and review of journal entries (debt, equity, post retirement, insurance) and ASC 606 workbooks during the monthly and annual closings.
• Provide significant support of the annual financial statement audit, including oversight of third-party subject matter experts and work with external audit firm.
• Provide assistance in establishing effective financial controls over the evaluation and application of accounting literature to complex transactions.
• Contribute to the development of discipline and enterprise policies that facilitate a strong internal control environment.
• Develop cross-functional processes that improve the efficiency and timeliness of financial reporting and support Chase’s continued growth.
• Execute on special projects, as needed.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field, with Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus

Knowledge and Experience

• 3+ years of technical accounting experience
• 2+ years of public accounting experience
• In-depth knowledge of technical accounting (U.S. GAAP), SEC reporting, technical accounting memo writing, and internal controls
• Experience implementing accounting and/or equity tracking software applications a plus
• Superb analytical, strategic, and critical thinking skills, with impeccable attention to detail, and strong prioritization and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively work with executive leadership and cross-functional teams throughout the company
• Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• Team-oriented, cooperative, and collaborative
