The Academic Advisors for the College of Science and Engineering serves as a primary, front
line advisor to students in the college, managing a defined caseload of students. Utilizes a developmental approach to aid student success,
assists students with identifying academic goals, course selection and progress, and refers to appropriate campus resources. Maintains
official documents for the student, such as candidate plans of study and electronic advisement reports. Participates in office involvement
in campus new/prospective student events (Transfer Student Orientation, Open House, etc.) in conjunction with other staff and faculty. This
position relies heavily on the use of technology (PeopleSoft, EAB/Navigate, etc.) to supplement the academic advising process and to track
student success initiatives. Actively engages in professional development at the campus, local, state and national level, continuously
seeking to improve techniques and skills in the field of academic advising.
Duties:
Required:
1.
Bachelor’s degree.
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills, social skills, and critical thinking and listening skills to
provide an excellent service experience to students.
3. Computer/technology skills, including Microsoft Office suite to conduct
academic advising duties and create/process documents.
4. Attention to detail, ability to organize and prioritize work, and
understand/interpret policies and procedures.
5. Ability to collaborate with others, be flexible, adaptive, creative, and handle
numerous tasks with frequent interruptions.
6. Ability to assimilate large amounts of information and recall that information.
7. Must be accountable and dependable and exhibit cultural awareness and understanding.
8. Must be knowledgeable of various
approaches of academic advising.
Desired:
Master’s degree.
One year of direct academic advising
experience.
Involvement in professional academic advising professional organizations
PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office
experience.
