SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing accounting principles to prepare financial reports, analyses of financial data and ensuring financial compliance. The Staff Accountant will maintain and execute a variety of financial procedures, including month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable, general ledger entries, expense account compliance.
The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Assistant Controller and will be responsible for supporting the accounting and finance team in carrying out all other responsibilities of the department.
Essential Functions (This list may not include all duties as assigned):
· Implements and maintains accounting best practices.
· Pay bills & prepares weekly check run.
· Handles vendor correspondence via phone or email and sets up new vendors.
· Reconciles vendor accounts.
· Investigates and resolves problems associated with processing of bills and purchase orders.
· Monitors and reviews accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
· Files monthly alcohol tax reporting.
· Reconciles select balance sheet accounts and subledgers, such as A/P and Accrued Purchases.
· Performs data entry and file maintenance for accounting team as well as assists in the maintenance of master data for vendors.
· Explains billing, invoicing, and accounting policies to staff, vendors, and customers.
· Identifies process improvement opportunities as it relates to the individual’s area of responsibility.
· Performs variance analyses.
· Supports tax audit requirements related to specific areas of responsibility.
· Records vendor prepayments.
· AMEX & Pcard expense coding.
· Performs other duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, related field, or equivalent job experience.
· 3-5 years of Accounting experience required.
· Experience in Treasury or full-cycle A/P desirable.
· Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including proficiency in Excel.
· Excellent analytical skills, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
· Knowledge of NetSuite or similar software is a plus.
