Seeking dynamic, student-focused, adaptive, and innovative, full-time, live-in professional Residential Education
Directors (R.E.D.s) for communities housing 145-650 residents for the 2022-2023 academic year. The R.E.D. mentors and supervises up to 14
paraprofessionals, supports programming, advises student government, provides crisis intervention, manages on-campus conduct case load,
promotes multicultural awareness, and performs comprehensive administrative functions.
We offer a unique and customizable
experience with many opportunities to develop skills both as a specialist in Residence Life and a generalist in Student Affairs. Our
collateral experience allows Residential Education Directors to develop an understanding of a variety of offices such as: Office of the Dean
of Students, Recruitment and Retention, Multicultural Student Services, Outdoor Recreation, The Woman’s Center, Student Involvement,
Gender Identity/Expression and Sexual Orientation Resource Center, Access Center, Compton Union Building Administration, Learning
Communities, and the Academic Success and Career Center.
The Department of Housing and Residence Life at WSU prides itself in
creating a challenging and developmental experience for both the students we serve and the employees we supervise. We are committed to
adapting and enhancing our employees’ experiences to provide them a diverse sampling of student affairs practice along with their
daily residence life work. We believe in building student affairs professionals not just housing professionals. A considerable amount of
intentionality is put into how we supervise and operate. The department believes in and practices a flat-hierarchy as part of its effort to
remain both open and available to our students and employees.
The office culture can be summed up in four words: hard-working,
funny and awkward, but not in a bad way! We believe in giving everything our best, but we also believe that laughing is an essential
component in self-care as well as team building. Due to this belief, there is a healthy amount of joking and awkward long pauses when no one
gets the Associate Director’s jokes.
