POSITION SUMMARY: The position serves as a J2EE applications development specialist providing subject matter expertise for the implementation, integration and support of J2EE technology environments. The essential functions of this position include analysis, design and develop web-enabled applications and web services to replace or supplement existing client-server applications and in support of new technology initiatives. The incumbent assists Senior Analysts in assessing and documenting current client server applications and helps in the migration to a Web-centric environment, using J2EE, Web Services, and Tomcat Servers. The incumbent also troubleshoots various applications, monitors performance enhancements, supports application production, and performs ongoing maintenance to a wide variety of software applications. The incumbent serves as a team leader in determining system and user needs; strategic planning, evaluates and recommends changes to existing software; and keeps abreast of emerging technologies. To carry out these responsibilities, the incumbent uses a computer and/or laptop and associated software and travels occasionally.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be obtained. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Three years progressively professional experience working with J2EE analysis/design. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS) in place of new development. Experience performing applications development, support, and maintenance to various applications in a J2EE, Tomcat system environments. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and presentation skills. Must be able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends. Writing samples, i.e., technical documentation, are required at the interview. Occasional travel required (10-20 overnights per year).
TIER 1 (Essential): Demonstrated skills and experience analyzing, designing, and documenting data in the J2EE development environment and technologies (e.g., Java, JSP, Tag Libraries, Servlets, EJB, JDBC, etc.), Bootstrap, Angular Js, ReactJs, Spring Framework, Web Services (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI), Microservices, HTML/DHTML, XML/XSLT, HTTP/HTTPS. Working knowledge of J2EE design patterns, Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, and Web Style and Design Concepts. Thorough understanding of Tomcat Servers, LINUX and MS/SQL or Oracle. Experience in all phases of Agile System Development (e.g., Bitbucket, GIT (GitHub/GitLab), CI/CD, Jenkins, SonarQube). Experience in administering, deploying, building, and tuning applications. Proven problem resolution skills and experience in a customer-service IT environment. Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Successful references. TIER 2 (Significant): Knowledge of Atlassian Jira and Confluence. Perform backup support of systems as requested. Knowledge of security techniques (signatures and certificates, SSL, firewalls, DMZs, etc.). Working knowledge of development (JDeveloper, Eclipse, etc.) environments. Experience in Agile Project Management methodologies. Flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities or conditions. Experience with Service Orientated Architecture (SOA). TIER 3 (Desirable): Experience with Salesforce, MuleSoft, and building internet-scale solutions in AWS. Knowledge of stress and unit testing techniques.
