Job Summary
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) seeks an Associate Director to join our Counseling
and Psychological Services (CAPS) team. This role provides input and makes recommendations for the effective and efficient administrative,
clinical, consultative, and outreach functions of CAPS. Provides consultation and oversight on sensitive, challenging, and more acute
clinical cases, in consultation with the Director. Provides urgent clinical services during regular hours of operation. Attends
administrative meetings, participate on relevant committees, and provide input and recommendations to enhance the general operational flow
of clinical services. Provides on call coverage, crisis intervention, psycho-educational programming, community liaison and referrals, data
collection, assessment and evaluation, and reports as needed. Serves as the Administrator-in-Charge when the Director is absent or
unavailable.
The Associate Director is responsible for responding to the mental health needs of RISD students. Under minimal
guidance from the Director, this role is responsible for the clinical training for practicum students and interns from a variety of academic
programs. Provides a full range of culturally informed clinical and administrative services to support the psychological health of a
culturally diverse and creative student body at RISD. Delivers consultation and training to faculty and staff in the RISD community.

services to support the unique needs of art and design students, which include objective and non-judgmental counseling, individual and group
therapy, 24/7 crisis referral services, as well as tools and resources to build campus-wide awareness/understanding of mental health issues.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Demonstrated experience in program development and
evaluation.
Demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation.
Demonstrated competency
providing clinical services for diverse or marginalized clients, including international populations and clients who identify along the
gender and sexual orientation spectra.
Demonstrated experience with considering and implementing social justice elements
into training and practice from a systemic standpoint.
Demonstrated competency in managing and responding to crisis and
emergency clinical situations.
Demonstrated experience providing clinical services for the wide range of presenting issues
seen in college students, including assessing and managing risk and the treatment of acute concerns (e.g., eating disorders, prodromal
symptomatology).
Appreciation and knowledge of the process of intersectional identity development.
Ability to manage a very full caseload within a time-limited clinical setting.
Ability to manage crisis situations,
including suicidality and danger to others.
Highly effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a highly
collaborative manner.
Strong outreach, consultation, and written and verbal communication skills.
Must
be computer literate.
An MSW or master’s in counseling (or related field) with at least 7 years of experience
post-licensure in mental health settings; Or a doctorate in counseling, clinical, or psychology from an APA-accredited program with at least
2 years of experience post-licensure in mental health settings.
At least 2 years of clinical supervisory experience
required.
Must be licensed or license-eligible as an LICSW, LMHC, or Psychologist in Rhode Island (i.e. must file for
licensure in Rhode Island immediately upon hire and obtain license in accordance with RI State Board of Health prevailing standards and
schedules).
