The Indiana University Foundation (IUF), in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs, seek a qualified fundraisers to serve as Director of Development to lead philanthropic efforts to partner with IU Bloomington students for their success.

The Division of Student Affairs at Indiana University Bloomington serves all 47,000 undergraduate and graduate students. This is a particularly exciting time to lead fundraising for the Division of Student Affairs, with opportunities to play a critical role in addressing critical student needs through philanthropic support. Over the last five years, the Division of Student Affairs has undergone much change and growth prompted by changing student needs and interests including an increased focus on access to mental health services, holistic health and wellness, emergency funding for students in need, resources for veterans, and support of Greek life at IU as well as many other high impact areas.. A high level of excellence, sensitivity and commitment to bettering student life is critical for this position. The Director of Development role presents an opportunity to further tell the story of what donors, parents, and partners can do to help further define the Hoosier experience and will play an integral role in furthering the Division’s vision and growth through philanthropic and outreach efforts.

The aim of the role is to develop and maintain relationships that maximize engagement and support, with an emphasis on major gifts. The Director will cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts through personal visits, phone calls, and other campaigns. This individual will plan and execute a comprehensive solicitation strategy to result in the building of a sustainable, robust fundraising program with emphasis on managing a portfolio of prospects and personally conduct a minimum number of substantive contacts and solicitations each year.

Education and Experience Required

• A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising or relevant experience in complex organization including proven success in major gift development work. Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
• Combinations of related education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge and Skills Required

• Prior experience in a large, complex, matrixed environment, including evidence of effective strategic planning and implementation of action plans;
• Ability to handle multiple demands and/or manage complex and competing priorities;
• Experience related to all aspects of planning and successfully executing large fundraising campaigns including working with academic leaders and preparing transformative and complex gift proposals;
• Possess an ability to work comfortably within an academic environment that possesses many competing interests, priorities, and opinions;
• Proven analytical skills – proficiency at framing and solving complex problems, proficiency in using large databases (e.g., standard fundraising data) to setting goals and identifying opportunities for improvement particularly as it relates to gift officer performance;
• An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion among staff and volunteers;
• Excellent knowledge of fundraising with a general knowledge of marketing, and communications, as well as demonstrated skills in major and planned gift solicitation and experience with major gift prospect management systems;
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering collaboration across advancement disciplines;
• Success developing authentic relationships with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders;
• Apply critical thinking to analyze and interpret information and/or data;
• Use discretion and maintain privacy, confidentiality or anonymity;
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
• Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (able to tailor communications to multiple audiences such as the Dean, major donors, advisory board, and university leadership). Precision, timeliness, clarity, and accuracy in written communication are vital.

The Indiana University Foundation will conduct a thorough, in depth interview process, allowing qualified candidates exposure to a variety of stakeholders within the Indiana University Foundation, as well as the university at large. The interview process will include built in opportunities for candidates to learn more about Bloomington and our cherished university.

The positions will be posted through at least Sunday, November 20th, 2022. Screenings will be conducted for all candidate meeting the job qualifications and may begin as early as October 24th.
