Duties and Responsibilities
The Vehicle Inspection Officer investigates for-hire vehicles operation and ensures compliance with District laws, rules, and regulations. Develops evidence of violations, and in preparing formal charges of illegal activity. Incumbent records daily violations of District for-hire regulations and issues citations accordingly. Informs supervisor or prepares written reports on results of approved investigations, including finding of fact and conclusions.
Examines manifests for accuracy and completeness, monitors for-hire vehicles and makes on-the-spot decisions and recommendations, related to interpretation of District rules and regulations, established DFHV procedures and work standards.
Qualifications and Education
This position requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as conducting investigations, enforcement of policies and regulations of for-hire vehicles, testing, licensing, authentication, inspections, and develops and prepares documentations of violations; or similar work.
Licensures, Certifications and other requirements
Possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s permit and be able to obtain a District Government driver’s permit.
Work Environment
Work includes on-the-street monitoring, assisting in outreach campaigns, special assignments, driving in heavy traffic and occasional inclement weather, court and adjudication hearings and general office activities.
