Basic Function: Collaborate with teachers so they can provide developmentally appropriate English language instruction tailored for students level of English proficiency in all core content classes; Develop all MLL students targeted English proficiency to meet or exceed RIDEs growth expectations; Assist teachers to provide effective content instruction toward developing English language proficiency. The MLL teacher will work closely with content teachers to plan lessons, analyze student achievement data and design and implement differentiated supports based on the proficiency of each student through daily in-class support. Additionally, the MLL teacher will: –Plan and teach ELD (English Language Development classes); — Support MLL students as needed in core content classes and capstone — Co-plan cultural events (e.g. Culture Night); — Participate in staff meetings and professional development; –Serve as a mentor providing mentoring and case management; — Provide Support for MLLs through office hours; –Meet with each teacher team at least once per week to share SIOP strategies/methods on how to provide scaffolded instruction in all core content areas.
–Collaborate with core content teachers to ensure that quality language objectives, linked to the specific lesson, are developed, posted, and implemented. The ultimate goal is that every student will be able to demonstrate proficiency by using academic language in writing and speaking on demand. –Meet with MLL students as their English teacher to provide targeted instruction in individually identified areas of growth in speaking, reading, writing, and listening as well as supporting MLL students as they progress through their Rosetta Stone ELA coursework. ACCESS preparation strategies should be embedded in instruction and workshop tasks on a frequent basis from the beginning of the school year to the ACCESS administration window dates designated by RIDE (typically in January).
Present ACCESS Data results to schools core teachersCreate individual plans for all our MLL stating short term and long-term academic goals. Demonstrate active participation in MLL related PD opportunities by attending in-person or online.. Notify the MLL support Team when there are concerns regarding individual students progress, or when there are teachers who are struggling to provide effective content instruction to those learning English.
