Overview:

Description of Position:

This position is responsible for prompt and accurate billing and follow-up for RYC services provided to clients covered by third party payors, including: Medicare, Medicaid, SASS, commercial insurance, worker’s compensation, private/self pay and managed care programs. The role includes communication with clients, UPH staff, and payor representatives utilizing the Robert Young Center’s Trauma Informed Care Guiding Principles.

Billing Follow-up

• Understands the relationship of timely and thorough claims follow-up to assist in the reduction of days in Accounts Receivable (AR) and payor turn around.

• Reviews EOB’s from third party payors and other correspondence or requests for information including analyzing zero-pay EOBs for non-payment.

• Contact insurance companies to follow up on claim issues by phone and websites.

• Analyzes AR and places high priority on large dollar accounts in terms of seeking prompt payment.

Billing

• Generates billing batches for primary, secondary, tertiary funding and re-submittals on a daily basis.

• Generates invoices in VisionWorks for electronic and paper claims and imports to clearinghouse for submission to the payor.

• Releases invoices electronically or sends a paper claim to the appropriate third party payor.

• Reviews and corrects all edits or errors promptly prior to submission for clean claims on pre-bill and reconciliation reports to assure all invoices were transmitted correctly.

• Generates client statements, exporting the file via e-mail to PSS to process.

Payor Relations

• Processes patients’ financial applications, calculates discounts and patients’ responsibilities if appropriate and communicates results to patient.

• Provide information and answer questions clients or others may have regarding an account.

• Communicates with payor representatives to resolve systemic billing issues.

• Maintains up to dates knowledge of payor requirements to ensure accurate billing.

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

Education:
Minimum of a High School degree or GED.
Medical Billing

Experience:
Experience in a medical office setting, verifying insurance.
Exposure to accounts receivable or insurance experience

License(s)/Certification(s):
Medical billing and coding certificate

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Skills in the operations of computers and other office equipment including Microsoft Office
Written and verbal communication skills
Ability to be Customer Service focused
Ability and skill to communicate with external stakeholders, including insurance companies

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
