Job Description:
Develops a culture of safety throughout the organization, collaborating with Transportation, Warehouse, Upper Management, HR and other company-wide safety professionals
Supports & deploys company safety awareness agenda, champions safety education and leads safety enforcement
Ensures deployment of company’s safety agenda & enforces compliance with Federal regulations
Stays abreast of all new and current safety regulations and updated processes, policies & practices
Leads the investigation process for all accidents and incidents, and recommends course of action
Reviews incident data, evaluates occurrences, and works with the corporate safety team to craft reports, file claims with insurance and determine the type, length and depth of safety training that is appropriate for each individual involved in any type of accident/s
Ensures timely and efficient processing of incident documentation and files, with claims and insurance
In conjunction with the corporate safety team, builds accident preventing system reinforced by ongoing training to avoid recurrence of individual injuries, property damages & workers compensation claims for all team members.
Collaborates with the Operations Team to administer corporate established safety performance based reward programs
Collaborates with Operations Team in screening, hiring and acculturating new Warehouse and Transportation candidates
Develop and implement a simple, targeted KPI’ scorecard for both warehouse and transportation teams in the Bronx facility.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Formal training or education in transportation safety is desired but not required
5 years of Safety experience or a background in Safety Management in the transportation and distribution industry is preferred
Knowledgeable of Safety best practices, regulatory requirements, industry standards & DOT/OSHA regulations
Experience in developing and implementing safety and risk management programs which comply with all Federal, State and local laws
Oral and written communication skills are necessary alone with a strong set of Platform Skills as this role will lead discussions with tough audiences on sensitive issues
Strong computer proficiency using Microsoft Office products, i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
Experience in evaluating company risk factors, anticipate related costs and able to proactively recommend corrective measures
Excellent organizing skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
