The Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department seeks a Utility Maintenance Worker I. In this position, your daily duties will include the routine cleaning, repair, inspection, vector control, disinfection, and maintenance of sanitary sewage conveyance systems (gravity and pressure).
Pima County’s Regional Wastewater Reclamation Conveyance Division operates and maintains one of the largest sewer systems in the nation encompassing 3500 miles of pipes, over 78,000 manhole structures, 22 pump stations, and 28 odor control facilities. The Department trains and certifies personnel in the operation of CDL licensed vehicles, Department of Environmental Quality certifications, and multiple safety and OSHA training and certifications.

High school diploma or GED equivalency and six months of experience performing maintenance work in general construction or in an industrial setting.

Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Licenses and Certificates: All positions require possession of a valid Grade 1 Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Collection certification upon completion of initial or promotional probation (training/preparation provided). Valid driver’s license is required at the time of application. Valid AZ driver’s license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Candidate must obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL w/tanker endorsement) upon completion of initial or promotional probation (training/preparation provided).

Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Physical/Sensory Requirements: A post-job offer physical is required. All positions require the ability to lift up to 100 pounds for brief periods. All positions require the ability to enter and work in confined spaces, which may require the proper wearing of individual safety and protective equipment.
