Support the mission of Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School is to assist parents in their role as primary educators of their children by providing a classical liberal arts education grounded in the great works of Western Civilization and aimed at academic excellence, musical competence, and character formation.Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Model the mission of the school.Provide individualized, small group or whole group English as a Second Language instruction to English Learners.Collaborate and communicate with content teachers to align instruction and support to both the ESL.
students English language development and their classroom instructional needs.Collaborate and communicate with the schools instructional leadership team, instructional coaches, and ESL Director to ensure ESL students receive equal access to school programs and services.Administer state-mandated testing, such as Access for ELLs.Maintain student records in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.Attend and host parent-teacher conferences regarding ESL students and their academic progress.Attend and participate in at least 2 parent workshops, parent events, and parent groups.Attend and participate in required training and/or professional developments that support the teaching and learning of English Learners.Meet with SEI teachers weekly for planning and discussing student progress. Preferred candidates will need to demonstrate the following skills, expertise, and professionalism: Demonstrate a commitment to excellence, equity, and high expectations for all students with an emphasis on building on the strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process and closing the achievement gap of English Learners.Model professional behavior that addresses job responsibilities, school policies and procedures, and the expectations of professionals working in a multi-lingual, multicultural, and economically diverse community.Build and maintain safe, fair, and respectful learning environments that celebrate the diversity of the student population.Initiate and maintain consistent communication and develop constructive partnerships with families-communicating about student progress and ways the families can support the student at home.Initiate and maintain consistent communication and develop construct partnerships with community members, and agencies, building on their strengths and recognizing them as co-educators.Plan instruction and employ strategies that address the wide range of learning, behavioral, and communication styles of the student population.Plan and deliver lessons utilizing the WIDA standards and deliver appropriate lessons for varying levels of English proficiency.Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use effective and culturally relevant instructional practices.Integrate technology into the classroom as an instructional tool and for personal productivity.Have extensive knowledge of the content including, but not limited to, key concepts and facts, relevant research, methods of inquiry, and communication styles specific to the respective discipline (s).Demonstrate understanding of standards-based education, including local state and content frameworks, and mandated school-wide curriculum for literacy, English Language Development, and English Language Arts.Monitoring and assessing of progress: Use a variety of assessment tools and strategies to gather data to monitor student mastery of instructional content, to improve instruction, and to assess the comparative performance of subgroups within the classroom. Assist classroom teachers in the administration of all mandated state and local assessments for English Language Learners whenever appropriate.Reflect on practice in collaboration with administrators and colleagues, monitor personal and professional growth, and pursue professional development in needed areas.Perform relevant tasks and duties assigned by the building administration and/or ESL Director.Qualifications: Must hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English as a Second Language at the appropriate grade level.SEI EndorsementMeet all the state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified according to NCLB.Possession of a Bachelors DegreeCurrent authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have authorization by their first day of employment.Able to model excellent spoken and written English for students learning English in schoolCompensation: Full-Time Exempt Salary Position in accordance with the established Teachers Salary Scale.
