Examines, validates and verifies accounting documents; codes accounting forms, documents, and transactions; prepares posting media; posts transactions to accounting records; reconciles accounts, records and documents; compiles summaries, statements and reports; and performs other duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
Classes in this series differ from classes in the General Clerical series in that classes in the Account Clerical series are primarily responsible for the maintenance of accounting records which requires a knowledge of account clerical methods, forms, and techniques; whereas classes in the General Clerical series are primarily concerned with the performance of a variety of clerical tasks which may include as an incidental assignment, simple account record keeping tasks.
Grade Level Standards:
Grade II: Responsible for a variety of subsidiary or special accounting records and performs the full range of account record keeping tasks under general supervision and may supervise the work of lower level clerks.

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and for:
Level II: three (3) years of clerical or office work experience, of which two (2) years shall have been in maintaining accounting records.
Knowledge of: principles and practices of bookkeeping, office practices and procedures; office machines and equipment, including personal computers, peripheral equipment, and software applications; grammar, punctuation, spelling and word usage.
Ability to: use a personal computer, maintain accurate fiscal records; make rapid and accurate arithmetic calculations; understand transactions in terms of accounting codes and classification; understand relationship among accounting records and source documents; operate bookkeeping, adding and calculating machines; understand and apply agency policies, rules and regulations; prepare summaries, statements and reports; establish effective working relationship with others.

Vacation
Eligible employees earn up to 21 days of vacation per year, with a maximum year-to-year carry over of 90 days. Eligibility to accrue vacation begins with the first work day.
Sick Leave
Eligible employees accumulate up to 21 days of sick leave per year. Eligibility to accrue sick leave begins with the first work day, and there is no limitation on the amount of sick leave that may be accumulated.

Group Life Insurance
Group life insurance is provided at no cost to eligible employees.

The County observes 13 holidays per year (14 in an election year).
Deferred Compensation Plan
Eligible employees may participate in the Island Savings Plan (a deferred compensation plan as provided under Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code.) This is a supplemental retirement savings plan that allows for the investment of tax-deferred contributions into a variety of investment options.
Flex Spending Plan
Eligible employees can also participate in the County’s Flexible Spending plan, a way to set aside a portion of pay, before taxes, to pay for qualifying dependent care or medical expenses.
Employee Assistance Program
The County also offers a voluntary assistance program which provides its employees and their family members with free professional and confidential assistance in overcoming personal and work related problems.
Training
The County provides its employees with a variety of up-to-date training opportunities (i.e., computer application, professional seminars, heavy equipment operation, administrative & clerical skills, personal safety, etc.) to help them increase their knowledge, gain new skills, and to be more satisfied and effective in their jobs.
Leave Sharing
The County’s leave sharing program allows employees to donate accumulated vacation leave credits to a qualified fellow employee who has a serious personal illness or injury.
