Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Senior Civil/Highway Engineer for the Upstate New York area geography, to be assigned to our Latham (Albany), NY or Amherst (Buffalo), NY offices, although other location options may be possible. The selected candidate will have opportunity to work on New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA), and municipal highway, highway/bridge, trail, or site development projects, including design-bid-build and major design-build projects. Projects will be located throughout the state of New York, including opportunities to support New York City-area projects for the above clients plus the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey. Candidates with previous consulting experience for NYSDOT or NYSTA or direct employment in highway design at those agencies are particularly valued for this role. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate in-office with Transportation Business Line colleagues and through digital collaboration and travel with dozens, even hundreds of civil engineers throughout AECOM. Job Responsibilities:
Leading preliminary and detailed designs on a variety of state and local transportation projects
Providing technical direction and mentoring to civil engineers
Performing design for more complex tasks
Project delivery and specifications
Ensuring corporate quality procedures are followed
Meeting client quality, schedule, and budget expectations
Interacting with clients and overseeing sub-consultants
Developing solutions to a wide range of difficult technical highway design and construction problems
Working among teams of multiple disciplines to achieve high-quality designs
Communicating directly with clients and client teams as may be required, in person or by other means
Independently prioritizing work, and determining and developing highway engineering design solutions
Assisting Project Managers with various tasks including developing scope, schedule, and budgets for projects
Acting as Project Manager for projects, if qualified under AECOM’s certification program
Minimum Requirements
BS in Civil Engineering
Minimum of six (6) years of experience
Experience working with MicroStation Bentley, InRoads/OpenRoads
Experience with New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) standards, specifications, and project delivery
Experience in multiple elements of civil engineering design with an emphasis on transportation projects
Experience in Site Grading and Drainage
Experience in Construction plan and document preparation
Professional Engineering License in New York State (or transferrable)
MS Office software application experience, such as spreadsheet, word processing, and standard office software
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s in civil engineering
Preferred ten (10) years of experience with civil engineering highway design
Demonstrated capability in a lead or project engineer role on highway design projects
Design-build experience
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic
Strong organizational skills
Experience working independently
