The plant operator is responsible for safely operating the control board, DCS or similar system, or a specific area in the plant and having familiarity with all safety showers, pumps, lines/pipes, compressors, tanks, valves, instruments, unit process, etc. in their unit or area. The operator is responsible for maintaining excellent housekeeping in their area. The operator continuously communicates with the shift supervisor and fellow operators, maintenance personnel and members of Management via face to face interaction, hand held radio, phone or email regarding plant performance, maintenance, process changes or disruptions.
Requirements
Performs Operator functions of observing the operation of equipment and auxiliaries, removes and disposes of spent chemicals and containers, makes equipment adjustments, removes waste material, starts and stops equipment, prepares for and makes material transfers, opens and closes valves vessels, flushes lines and equipment as directed, following specified procedures. Transports and stores process by-products.
Collects samples as required and run routine tests as prescribed.
Notifies the Board Operator and supervisor of malfunctioning equipment or other operating irregularities. Works in cooperation with other plant personnel to correct.
Communicates and cooperates with the Board Operator, Logistics, and Maintenance as required.
Operates manufacturing equipment automatically or manually as required and makes operating decisions and adjustments based on information conveyed by instruments, signals, reports, or instructions from the Board Operator or Operations Supervision.
Lubricates, cleans, and unplugs lines and equipment; makes minor equipment adjustments.
Maintains and reviews log of shift activities (written and/or electronic). Prepares required reports.
Keeps the work area clean, orderly, and in a safe condition.
Participates in-plant training programs to maintain operating skills and safe work practices. Assists in training others as required.
Make a periodic tour of facilities, reporting corrective actions taken or documenting the need for corrective action if that operator cannot make the correction.
Input data to maintenance management systems to issue work orders.
Follow permit preparation procedures.
Perform lock-out/tag-out as necessary.
Perform any other job responsibilities and duties as assigned by Management.
