The role of the Human Resources Generalist includes directing and coordinating human resources activities for Guardian Couplings’, Michigan City, IN facility in accordance with state and federal laws. The HR Generalist will strive to meet policy deployment objectives by performing the duties as stated below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the recruitment process for the facility, including scheduling interviews, selection of candidates, attends local job/career fairs, etc. In addition, sets up drug screens and pre-employment physicals, obtains employment verifications, and presents employment offers to qualified candidates. Plans and conducts new employee orientation of all associates to foster a positive attitude towards the company’s policy deployment/objectives goals.
Manages human resources functions for the facility including, hiring, terminations, succession planning, benefit communications, salary plans, conflict resolution, etc.
Keeps records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government and internal reporting.
Assists in investigation and resolution of employee complaints and advises management of appropriate resolution of employee relations issues including, but not limited to employee counseling, warnings, and terminations.
Investigates and processes all accidents and Workers Compensation claims, as well as maintains logs in compliance with OSHA regulations.
Works with Supervisors to track monthly safety information.
Administers salary, performance review and succession planning programs to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and timeliness of completion.
Prepares monthly human resources reports, including turnover, accidents, labor hours, manning, attendance, etc. to proactively bring concerns to the management team and assist in managing the people side of the business.
Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
Systems expert for processing hourly and salaried payroll on a weekly and semi-monthly basis including, but not limited to, collecting all data, inputting hours and finalizing the documentation in the HR/Payroll system.
Responsible for organizing company social and recreational functions, plant training and communications update as well as the local hospitality of visitors and with coordinating logistics and lunches for training events held at the facility.
Serves as a liaison between the Company and outside vendors for various needs including temporary staffing, products and services.
Serve as a local contact for IT Department needs.
Promotes positive employee relations through communications with associates.
The application of lean management to continually improve the human resources department and other processes.

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or related field preferred
Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
