Job Description:
Proactively seek, develop, and advance innovative design recommendation to further key business strategies as well as talent attraction and retention. Oversee vendor relationships and manage expectations for performance and employee service support. Work independently to provide oversight, support and analysis of system benefit plans and work-life programs, eg, pension, employee insurance, executive benefits, savings, sick leave, etc. This includes maintenance of ongoing efforts to keep system plans competitive and cost effective by being aware of current benefit market conditions and legislative activities. Furnish guidance on AEP benefit plans and their administration to the various HR organizations. Apply knowledge regarding AEP’s business, industry data, and financial strategies and systems.
Essential Job Functions:
Apply broad knowledge of employee benefit programs, provide program and administrative oversight, ensure compliance and lead projects as assigned.
Conduct research, analyze benefit plan trends and provide input on benefits strategy and programs to keep AEP System plan competitive and within guidelines and objectives.
Develop and present ideas to upper management for new benefit plan designs that enhance their functional capacity for the Company and better serve employees.
Analyze probable effects and resultant impact of change in System benefit programs and assist in the development of the communication to inform upper management.
Lead benefits projects with a focus on both change and project management and inclusion of key stakeholders.
Recommend and maintain administrative controls and audits in System benefit plan administration to ensure efficient operation including maintenance of necessary records and procedures to control plan costs.
Develop effective communications that promote System benefit plans and keep employees informed of the value of Company sponsored benefit plans to maximize employee relations aspects.
Conduct research for long term benefits planning; prepare documentation for reporting findings and include clearly stated financial implications.
Serve as communication and operational liaison between benefit plan vendors and other HR organizations.

1) Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) designation preferred.
