About the Role:
The American Forest Foundation (AFF) seeks a highly motivated candidate to join the Grants and Contracts Team, within the Finance Team, in administering and accounting for our expanding portfolio of grants, contracts, and partner funding relationships. As a National NGO, AFF is connecting family forest landowners with technical and financial assistance to better steward their land and achieve vital landscape-scale conservation impacts. Our mission is to delver meaningful conservation impact through the empowerment of family forest owners. This position will provide administrative and accounting support to program and finance staff at AFF and report to the Grants and Contracts Manager. This position will be responsible for hands-on administrative, compliance, financial administration, and accounting for grant awards and will be performing accounting functions including reporting and analysis, reconciliations, schedules, and journal entries for grant financials. With a focus on the contractual, regulatory, and financial administration and coordination of federal, state, and private grants, associated contracts, and agreements, this role will maintain excellence in meeting compliance, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.

- Prepare grant workpapers and manage grant receivable schedules
- Prepare grant financial reporting
- Conduct accounts payable activities associated with grants
- Prepare journal entries for funders as well as subrecipients
- Prepare and maintain reconciliation and tracking work papers for advanced funds
- Support the Finance Team’s Planning and Analysis function and program staff with budgets for grant applications and modifications
- Prepare invoices for reimbursable awards
- Manage both federal and non-federal funds with various levels of restrictions
- Provide ad hoc financial reports as requested
- Assist program staff to track program expenses
- Assist with the preparation of annual grant audit workpapers
- Perform day-to-day finance and accounting tasks related to grants
- Support the Finance Team with special projects
- Provide administrative support for program staff and the Finance Team
- Provide initial triage, review, facilitation, and coordination for grants, contracts, and agreements
- Facilitate and provide administrative support to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and adherence to policies and procedures
- Facilitate and administer grant record maintenance, backup documentation, and materials used for proposals
- Facilitate pre-agreement risk assessment and procurement procedures per policies
- Administer grant awards and contracts with various tasks from pre-award to post close-out
- Coordinate and facilitate documentation to meet legal and audit requirements
- Assist with program staff inquiries and information requests
- Serve as a liaison with program staff
- Perform day-to-day administrative tasks

What’s attractive to the right candidate:
- At least 3 to 5 years experience working in a grants administration and accounting position preferred;
- B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent experience required; preference for candidates with a degree in a field related to accounting and finance.
- Understanding of accounting principles including accrual accounting
- Ability (experience preferred) in financial administration and compliance for federal/state/private grants and contracts
- Existing knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance, cost principles, and audit requirements for federal awards (preferred), and / or an ability to learn quickly and thoroughly these kinds of requirements.
- Ability (experience preferred) in monitoring performance and expenses of subgrants and subcontracts
- Ability (experience preferred) in the administration of grant budgets
- Excellent reading, reviewing, and writing skills
- Excellent time management with attention to detail on timelines
- Proficient in a hybrid workplace environment
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat Pro
- Experience with NetSuite and Concur Expense software preferred
- A sound work ethic with the ability to act both independently and as part of a team.
