PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general direction of the Director of Ambulatory Pharmacy will manage the pharmacy operations for a new ambulatory community pharmacy under construction in a multi-specialty medical office complex in Ocean Pines, Maryland as part of a small rural hospital and health system. The assistant manager will train and begin operations in a hospital based ambulatory pharmacy current in its eighth year of operation for the same rural hospital and health system while the new pharmacy is under construction. As opening of new pharmacy approaches Assistant Manager will begin to focus role on implementation of management of new pharmacy working closely with current pharmacy leadership and hospital/health system stakeholders.
Responsible for the procurement and dispensing of outpatient medications; verifies prescribed medications according to professional standards, facility procedures, and state and federal legal requirements.
Manages full-performance cycle (hiring, evaluations, coaching/development, discipline, terminating, etc.) of identified pharmacy team members
Monitors the overall performance of all ambulatory pharmacy staff members to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies, practices and approved pharmaceutical dispensing processes.
Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development and opportunities
Reviews daily reporting and scheduling of hours worked for the pharmacy staff to include sick time, vacation time, personal and holiday time and adjusts scheduling as appropriate to assure optimal patient care is maintained
Leads departmental meetings and in-service training for pharmacy and ancillary staff.
Maintains compliance with all applicable Board of Pharmacy Standards.
Maintains all Pharmacy Operational Policies and Procedures.
Participates in achieving business goals and metrics for the ambulatory pharmacy, including assisting in marketing events and promotions.
Assists ambulatory pharmacy director in the fiscal management of the ambulatory pharmacy to optimize profits and control expenses for the ambulatory pharmacy consistently consulting with the other relevant managers and directors.
Assists ambulatory pharmacy director in the development, maintenance, and presentation of month end financial dashboards and periodic business reviews.
Assists ambulatory pharmacy director in the Establishment, supervision and maintenance of all pricing tables, special tier pricing and related pricing structures as deemed necessary for the operation.
Assists ambulatory pharmacy director and if appropriate Specialty Navigator(s) in demonstrating value of ambulatory pharmacy partnership to specialty practices
Assists ambulatory pharmacy director and if appropriate Specialty Navigator(s) in accessing various physician practices for potential specialty Rx value using tools/data available
Assists ambulatory pharmacy director and if appropriate Specialty Navigator(s) in maintaining relationships with physician offices through periodic visits/meetings
Working with onsite Pharmacy Navigator triage prescriptions which are limited distribution drugs or out-of-network

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normally requires Bachelors of Science Degree or Pharm D degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy a Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy; current, unrestricted pharmacist license through the appropriate state board of pharmacy. Also requires broad training and/or experience in the fields of business administration, sales, accountancy, marketing, information technology and retail/ambulatory pharmacy. Normally requires one (1) to three (3) years of directly related and progressively responsible retail/ambulatory care pharmacy experience, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory/management role. Advanced degree, Master’s or Pharm.D., is strongly preferred.
MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints

Ability to resolve patient issues quickly and creatively in order to improve customer satisfaction
Familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services and drug interactions

Must have general knowledge of business and finance processes including ability to read and interpret profit and loss statements
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Possession of an active certification basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Normally requires two (2) to four (4) years directly related and progressively responsible experience; a Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Unrestricted, current state license as a Registered Pharmacist in resident state is required.
