Role
Applied Materials is growing at a pace that is driving significant increases in headcount and facilities. As a result, we expect over the next five years to have the most exciting and active project pipeline in our history. In addition to enabling this growth, Applied Materials is also in the early phases of modernizing its entire global workplace portfolio, including our HQ campus in Silicon Valley. The Global Workplace and Infrastructure (GWI) team is responsible for all facilities, from acquisition through operation to disposition. The Workplace Design Manager will be responsible for driving project design solutions that are locally relevant and align with our Global Design Standards. Project types include workplace, logistics, light labs, and amenity. The position is based in Santa Clara and will report to the Managing Director, Global Workplace & Technology Services.
The role will be a highly visible individual contributor partnering with cross-functional teams and business unit leaders to deliver a design that elevates Applied’s workplace experience. This will range from participating as an active member of the onsite project team, to remote participation, to hiring a third party as an owner’s representative. The Senior Workplace Design Manager is expected to be willing to travel up to 30% and virtually support all global time zones.
Key Responsibilities
Guide project Programming, Concept, Design Development and Final Design. Ensure alignment with Global Design Guidelines and stakeholder needs.
Assist in the development of project charters for each workplace design project. Clearly articulate the project goal, project stakeholders, building requirements, design principles, workplace objectives, budgets, schedules, and other desired outcomes.
Define resources and consultants needed to complete project design. Drive Design Consultant selection with PM team.
Ability to interpret Global Design Guidelines and align with regional needs and culture.
Assist in Global Design Guideline improvement by benchmarking best practices and providing solution-oriented feedback for revisions. Identify gaps between Global Design Guidelines and regional built environment.
Provide executive level presentations on regional design projects, global workplace design trends, and workplace analytics.
Provide recommendations, analysis and solutions related to design, FF&E, moves and signage.
The Ideal Candidate will have the Following:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture.
10+ years of experience within architectural practice/design management in corporation, preferably managing design process for mid to large scale projects.
5+ years of experience in a project management capacity.
Experience in the semiconductor or similarly technically complex industry.
Experience with wide range of facility types across the entire project lifecycle (Entitlement, Planning, Design and Build).
Strong executive presence with an ability to communicate with and effectively influence senior leaders.
Passion to challenge the status quo in pursuit of material performance improvement.
Experience selecting, developing, and managing design and construction-related service providers.
Experience managing virtual teams and dealing with a wide range of international cultures.
Preferred experience delivering projects in multiple geographies, particularly US, APAC and India.
Experience managing global, strategic, large scale, and complex projects with a proven track record of delivering impact.

U.S. Salary Range:
$148,000.00 – $203,500.00
The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.
For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
