WHAT DOES A YOUTH CORRECTIONS OFFICER DO:
The job functions of a Youth Corrections Officer include, but are not limited to the following:
Mentoring, supervising, and directing incarcerated youth.
Role modeling positive behaviors Teaching life skills.
Assisting teachers with classroom management Transporting youth to daily activities.
Providing crisis intervention.
Providing youth a safe and secure environment.
Additional job duties include:
Monitoring assigned unit for safety hazards or security violations.
Performing searches for weapons and contraband.
Conducting visitation inspections.
Updating various logs and records and sharing reports.
HOW DO I QUALIFY:
To qualify for a Youth Corrections Officer position, applicants must possess the following:
High School Diploma or GED.
Possess and retain, a current valid Arizona Driver’s License.
Please Note: Employees who drive on state business are subject to motor vehicle record checks, and must maintain an acceptable driving record. Employees will be required to complete any required driver training as needed (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).
WHAT IS THE HIRING PROCESS LIKE:
Once an applicant meets the qualifications for the Youth Corrections Officer position, they must complete and pass the following:
Oral Interview.
Screening Assessments.
Criminal Background Check.
Drug Test.
Physical Exam.
DO I NEED TO HAVE ANY PRIOR EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING:
Applicants do not need to have any prior experience or training! ADJC will provide you with all the necessary training during our paid five-week Youth Corrections Officer (YCO) Training Academy*.
The YCO Training Academy is scheduled every five weeks and is held Monday – Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
YCO Training Academy topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Juvenile Corrections Procedures.
Officer Skills.
Crisis Intervention.
Adolescent Treatment Issues.
Legal Issues in Juvenile Corrections.
Additionally, upon completion of the YCO Training Academy, you will also receive two weeks of paid on-the-job training.
Earn College Credit! All YCO Training Academy graduates will already have 14 college credits in Juvenile Corrections from Rio Salado College, to start from.
WHAT IS THE PAY?
Effective July 1, 2021, ADJC is now offering a $3,000 Hiring Incentive for all newly hired Youth Correctional Officer 1’s!
The Youth Corrections Officer position participates in a 4-Step pay plan that conforms to the following:
Starting Rate: $22.5000 hourly/$46,800.00 annually.
Thereafter you will advance through the remaining pay steps on an annual basis:
Step 2: $23.6539 hourly/$49,200.00 annually
Step 3: $24.2308 hourly/$50,400.00 annually
Step 4: $24.6925 hourly,/51,360.00 annually

WHAT ARE THE HOURS AND WORK LOCATION?
The Adobe Mountain School (AMS) is a 24/7 facility that is fully accredited as a public education agency/ school district. AMS is located approximately 19 miles north of downtown Phoenix, at the intersection of I-17 and West Pinnacle Peak Road.

Work Hours:Youth Corrections Officers have 3 work shifts available:
1st Shift: 6a.m. – 2p.m.
2nd Shift: 2p.m. – 10p.m.
3rd Shift: 10p.m. – 6a.m.
Please Note: Work shift assignment and regular days off (RDOs) will be determined by the agency based on need, and cannot be guaranteed.

Youth Corrections Officer positions participate in the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP).
CORP Tier 3 is a Defined Contribution, 401 (a) retirement plan:
