Located at the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers, Williston is recognized as a regional center for business, leisure, and economic development. Serving as the largest City and the seat of Williams County, Williston is the primary retail and trade center for the area’s roughly 40,000 residents. The City has experienced explosive growth over the last decade due to increased activity in the oil and gas industry and is now the sixth-largest City in North Dakota. The City has grown over 125% since 2010, jumping from a population of 12,120 to 32,000 today. The City boasts extraordinary historic sites, world-class hunting and fishing, and beautiful national and state parks.
Reporting to the City Engineer, the Assistant City Engineer provides technical expertise to stakeholders and the public. This position assists in leading the Engineering Department by performing supervisory, engineering, and administrative work; working in both office and field operations of the City’s environmental, water, sewer, street, and public works projects; and serving as acting City Engineer when necessary.
The City of Williston seeks an independent, organized, and collaborative leader to serve as its next Assistant City Engineer. The ideal candidate can execute the vision of the City Engineer by attending meetings on the City Engineer’s behalf at times; leading or managing municipal utility projects; performing engineering design and drafting for routine, internally led projects; and performing engineering analysis and review for contracted, consultant-led projects.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or a related field, with EIT plus five years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering, including two years in a supervisory or administrative capacity. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with P.E. is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. A proficiency in AutoCAD software is highly desired, as is knowledge of city budgets, state funding programs, and ND DOT programs. Must obtain a P.E. license in the state of North Dakota within two years of hire date. A valid North Dakota driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days is required. Registration or eligibility for registration as a land surveyor in the state of North Dakota is preferred.
The salary for this position ranges from $120,000-$130,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
