Billing Associate

Position Description

Job Summary

The Billing Associate is an integral position that facilitates activities vital to enhance reimbursements from third-party payers and patients alike. This position works closely with the contracted billing company. The position communicates frequently with management, provider staff, the outside billing company and patients to develop and implement strategies to maximize reimbursements for BCHS.

Essential Functions

• Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization
• Daily collaborate with the contracted billing company’s staff associates to research and correct billing issues that restrict reimbursements for services provided.
• Facilitate resolving billing issues with BCHS provider staff associates regarding coding issues and closing unsigned encounters.
• Open the mail, collect the checks, and disburse the other mail received.
• Scanning and uploading EOBs.
• Monitoring and working the Billing inbox.
• Receiving patient billing inquiries and resolving issues.
• Verifying patient insurance eligibility.
• Establishing and monitoring Payment Plans for patients with outstanding balances.
• Monitoring the reconciliation process to ensure the receiving and recording of payments is complete.
• Researching remittances and clearing unposted transactions.
• Working with the contracted billing company to credential the provider staff and keep it current.
• Collaborate with BCHS staff associates assigned with incentive payments to maximize amounts received.
• Collaborate the BCHS in completing the Medicare Cost Report.
• Participate in the preparation and submission of Medicaid Rate Adjustment applications.
• Inform management regarding billing issues as identified and the potential interruptions in payments.
• Create and make the weekly deposits for monies received in the mail or from clinics.
• Gathering data to assist with audit activities.
• Maintain a list of all current and future priorities, including set deadlines and progress made towards completion.

Professional Requirements

• Experience with Athena One system is greatly preferred
• Experience with billing and coding processes to assist is getting claims submitted, denials reworked, and incentive payment codes applied to claims
• Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean
• Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times
• Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices to communicate the mission, ethics and goals of the organization
• Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions

Qualifications

• Five years of Coding experience
• Working knowledge of payor, practices, principles, and guidelines related to Federally Qualified Health Centers
• Working knowledge of Accounts Receivable and Revenue Cycle Management practices including front office workflows and denials management
• Willingness to be part of the BCHS Team and cooperate in the accomplishment of BCHS goals of the Billing Department
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Highest level ethics and responsibility

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.18 – $18.29 per hour
