Job Summary

The Ruby on Rails Developer will be based in the West Lake Hills area of Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will enjoy an exciting work environment in addition to a competitive salary and exceptional employee benefits.

Job Duties

• Maintain existing programming code base (Ruby on Rails) on proprietary applications.
• Maintain and develop Graphical User Interface (GUI), including javascript, jquery, html, and css.
• Monitor and maintain linux servers hosting Ruby on Rails applications.
• Analyze application change requests, provide work estimates, and implement approved requests.
• Interact with business users to understand requests and recommend improvement opportunities
• Analyze problems encountered in production and suggest possible workarounds
• Prepare technical specification documents based on the business requirements
• Conduct Business and IT engagement sessions by setting up quick proto types and/or reviewing process flows.
• Develop custom programs to implement any new Business process changes in the system
• Create scripts to convert data from one application to another (import/export)
• Work on performance tuning of the existing SQL queries
• Responsible for the unit and integration testing of newly developed or modified programs

• Create adhoc reports based on user requirements
• Analyze new product, technologies or updates available and if needed provide a demonstration of the benefits of implementing them
• Taking strong ownership and responsibility for code quality that follows best practices

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Five (5) years experience in development of Ruby on Rails applications.
• Strong understanding in design of Ruby on Rails tools, best practices, relational databases for medium size applications.
• Knowledgeable in working with large databases and designing security/access.

• Demonstrated capabilities in identifying, owning and resolving issues.
• Knowledge of good software engineering practices, including secure software design principles
• Excellent communication skills both oral and written
• Strong organizational skills, concern for quality, accuracy and able to prioritize work
• Demonstrated skills in creative thinking, teamwork, problem solving, decision making, and time management.
• A team player who is also comfortable working independently

Special consideration to applicants who:

• Skilled in creating complex queries, forms and outputs using MS Access
• Have insurance industry domain experience, especially employer worksite products
• Have proven track record of successful programming projects

BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Technology or similar field of study

• Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP)

Pay: $85,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
