The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

• Prepare concept, functional and detail level electrical and electronic arrangements for various naval and commercial vessels.
• Perform electrical load analysis and circuit breaker calculations.
• Provide technical assistance in the development of electrical department drawings.
• Perform checking of drawings and bills of material for accuracy, thoroughness, applicability, and conformance to specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Provide estimating data input for bidding purposes and estimate engineering hours for preparation of proposals.
• Develop and maintain reference files of electrical and electronics information.
• Originate correspondence necessary for operation of the department.
• Supervise one to three designers and draftspersons as required by workload and project assignment.
• Ability and willingness to assist other departments (Machinery, Piping, Outfitting, Structure) during slack time in the Electrical Department.
• Perform ship and shipyard visits as needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

OR

graduation from a recognized marine apprentice or military service school with electrical emphasis and three years’ experience in the engineering department of shipyards and/or naval architectural firms in positions of increased responsibilities

OR

graduation from a two year technical school program and five years’ experience in the engineering department of shipyards and/or naval architectural firms in positions of increased responsibilities

• Must have a working knowledge of electrical and electronics systems and installations.
• Working knowledge of USCG Regulations, ABS Certification Agency Rules and IEEE-45 Requirements a plus.
• Professional Engineer’s License a plus (or willingness to obtain)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Basic experience using AutoCAD. Strong AutoCAD experience a plus
• 3D modeling experience a plus.
• Always exercises sound judgment in assessing problem situations or complex issues
• Understands the proposal process and can lead the preparation and review of fee proposals, as required
• Able to perform Independent technical reviews of design effort by others
• Fully understands and utilizes the capabilities, applications, and operations of computer software associated with design assignments and provides direction and guidance to others
• Continually upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities, and pursues additional coursework and training
• Complies with the company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies
• Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
• 5+ years’ experience preferred
• Demonstrated experience in technical and operational aspects of marine vessels a plus
• Willingness to travel to ships and shipyards as needed within the U.S.

• 40 hours per week minimum
• Work time over 40 hours per week is paid at time and a half
• Core office hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday, including a 1 hour lunch break. Outside of core hours, employees may utilize a schedule that is flexible to their needs. In the summer (between Memorial and Labor Day) BEI follows a reduced core hour schedule on Fridays where employees may conclude their work-week at noon. This allows everyone more time to enjoy beautiful Door County, where there is a lot one can do in the summer.
• BEI has eight (8) paid holidays: Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving & day after Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Labor Day and Memorial Day. There is also one (1) floating holiday, which is a paid day off to be used at the employee’s discretion. We also provide employees with 24 hours of paid personal/sick leave each calendar year (this does not accumulate from year to year).
• In addition to personal leave and the floating holiday, you would be eligible for 2 week’s paid vacation per year, starting your first year of employment. An additional week of annual vacation is obtained after 5 years of employment.

• BEI has a Simple IRA program for employees who have worked here for at least 6 months. BEI matches employee contributions to their IRA up to 3% of their wages.
• BEI offers medical, dental and vision insurance. BEI pays 50% of medical and dental premiums. Note that BEI’s medical plan allows for employees to open a personal health savings account, which provides the benefit of using tax-free dollars to pay for medical and other qualifying expenses.
