As a Model Maker, this professional’s top role is to build or modify prototypes from renderings or engineering drawings. Projects will be constructed of wood, metal, acrylic, corrugated, plastics, electronics, or a combination thereof. Associated with this work is the need to create packaging for safe transport, take professional photos, or develop instruction sheets for end use. The merchandising business is fast-paced, so flexibility to respond to short lead-times is critical as priorities change. The Model Maker must work very closely with our Conceptual Designers and Account Managers to bring projects to life. A well-built, professional prototype is many times the difference between getting a large order, or none at all. With the proper background, training, and job performance, career advancement is possible. This includes moves to Senior Model Maker, or Structural Designer. The Model Maker is a member of the DOD’s staff, which meets weekly. This individual will also be assigned a mentor, an experienced Designer at Bish.

· Certification in CNC Lathe & Mill Operation

· Comfortable operating all common shop tools, manual and electric

· Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

· The chosen candidate will work out of Bish offices in Lake Zurich, IL @ 5 days per week. This is not a work-from home position

· Strong mechanical aptitude needed

· Solid written, verbal, communication, and organizational skills are required

· Attention to detail orientation and well-organized which results in high quality fit and finish on prototypes / models

· Willingness to collaborate and work in a team environment

· Able to converse in Excel, Word, Outlook, and NetSuite ERP

· This individual should be a self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction

· Associate or Bachelor Degree in a related field is preferred

· 2-4 years’ experience in Prototype Development or Model Making

· Experience in Adobe illustrator and EnRoute or equivalent is desirable, in order to manipulate die lines and to modify displays

· Experience in point-of-purchase, promotional merchandise, and custom store fixtures is a plus

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

· Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to work as an owner of the company, driven by total results
