The Vice President/General Manager, Services is a critical leadership role on the Merchandising team. The position reports to the Senior Vice President of Sundries and Services and will work closely with numerous cross functional leadership teams at BJ’s. This VP/GM’s mission will be to build a world-class portfolio of member services that power sales and margin expansion while also creating a positive lifetime value impact for engaged members. This is a critical role in supporting BJ’s growth and continued differentiation in the marketplace.
This VP/GM will serve as the leader responsible for BJ’s Services portfolio, including positioning, pricing, member experience, partner selection, contracting, and full P&L ownership. The VP/GM will drive the strategy and development of the Services portfolio as well as lead cross functional teams responsible for creating the integrated marketing, digital, operations, technical, member experience, and service delivery plans. The ultimate goal is for BJ’s Services to deliver a best-in-class experience in the most profitable manner, while providing unbeatable value to our members.
This candidate will be a strategic business leader and high caliber professional who understands the nuances and challenges associated with executing successful startups and business transformations in a highly matrixed organization. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial, thrive on collaboration, and possess a holistic and deep understanding of all the elements required to run a profitable business unit. With full P&L accountability, the VP/GM must have a growth mindset, and continuously seek out new initiatives that will increase sales and strengthen BJ’s strategic position. The VP/GM will be responsible for the overall development and execution of a cohesive, integrated, and innovative Services business strategy and organization architecture.
Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
• Assess the entire Services portfolio to determine the growth potential for existing Services and opportunity for future business expansion.
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of multi-year business plans for several strategically important Services businesses.
• Selectively evaluate new Service opportunities and construct business plans that inform entry in to “white space” where BJ’s has a clear right to win.
• Own full Services P&L and deliver on ambitious financial goals that are rooted in explosive growth with commensurate business-building investments.
• Serve as project manager and bring complex cross functional initiatives from inception to completion on time and at/under budget.
• Refine BJ’s end-to-end services value proposition, including assessing customer needs and developing strategies to position the organization’s offering to meet current and prospective member needs.
• Build reporting to understand and manage Services key performance indicators with an aim at improving financial performance.
• Construct new processes to evaluate and improve member experience and Net Promoter Score (NPS).
• Lead team of direct reports and cross functional partners responsible for managing each business in the Services portfolio.
• This leader will champion Services throughout the organization and mobilize the company to support their vision and initiatives.
Qualifications
• Experienced facilitator and communicator who can leverage written and verbal communication skills to influence at all levels within an organization.
• Leader who has a track record of success developing direct reports and cross functional partners while creating an inspiring vision that energizes their organization to take action.
• Strong financial acumen with experience creating and managing a full business unit P&L.
• Ability to power analytics and insights by establishing a data foundation from multiple external and internal sources.
• Experience leading large commercial negotiations and authoring business terms in multi-year contracts.
• Track record of successfully implementing multi-year strategic plans that require intense oversight on capital expenditures, expenses, and overall financial performance.
• Able to manage multiple priorities and projects from start to completion while adhering to scope, deadlines, and budgets.
• Detail-oriented with a high degree of urgency and an aptitude for problem-solving.
• Proficient with SAP, MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
