Boeing has an exciting opportunity for a Human Engineering Usability / Graphics Specialist (Level 3) with graphic design capability to join our St. Louis based Human Engineering team. This individual will provide in-person and remote support applying UX/Usability methodologies and design principals on state of the art defense and space products. The work will include contributing UX/Usability and visual design guidance to human engineering documentation and design solutions, developing plans for accomplishing human engineering tasks, and evaluating customer/operational needs.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with the ability to think on their feet and persuade others while collaborating across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and coordinating with the customer and user community. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate and defend design decisions are ideal. The individual will have the ability to quickly understand and empathize with users and apply their UX/Usability expertise and graphical design capability to guide design on new and existing products.
Position Responsibilities:
Apply UX/Usability human engineering principals, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products
Develop and implement UX/Usability research methodologies and analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in new and existing products, such as cockpit hardware designs, design for maintainer, and Crew/Pilot Vehicle graphical user interfaces
Guide program teams in the design of aircrew interfaces using a Boeing specific Style Guide and work as part of an HFE team to refine and improve the Style Guide as a living document.
Guide design of aircrew interfaces,applications and widget libraries by applying an understanding of the impact of color/perception and modern techniques in design (gradients, textures, transparency) (flat vs 3-D design) on the human operator
Create user prototypes with common prototyping software (such as Axure, Adobe XD, InVision Studio)
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Associates, Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, or related field
2 or more years of experience in the field of human engineering, Usability, User Experience, or Human Interface Design
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience working with a Department of Defense Aircrew
Expert knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Experience with common prototyping software: Axure, Adobe XD, InVision Studio
Expert knowledge of color/perception and modern techniques in design (gradients, textures, transparency) (flat vs 3-D design)
Knowledge of the Human-Centered Design (HCD) process and iterative design/research practices, including wireframing, prototyping, design thinking, affinity mapping, journey mapping, use cases, site mapping, ethnographic research, and usability testing
Experience converting basic wireframes into high fidelity mockups and designs
Experience in the use and management of a Style Guide
Experience designing artifacts for UX Research and implementing usability findings into designs
Experience designing complex software interactions (i.e. Interaction Design)
Demonstrated strong proficiency in user experience design
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to present analysis to large group of people
Ability to accept feedback and incorporate that feedback into design solutions
A strong portfolio demonstrating ability to guide and design user interfaces and libraries
Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
