Position Summary
The Head of Philanthropy at REACH CDC will lead the vision, strategy, and operations of the organization’s fundraising and development efforts. This role will oversee teams responsible for cultivating relationships with foundations, corporations, government entities, and individual donors, ensuring sustainable and impactful financial support for REACH’s mission. The Head of Philanthropy will manage a diverse portfolio of institutional and individual donors, seeking to expand REACH’s funding base and drive innovation in fundraising strategies.
A core responsibility will be transforming the organization’s approach to philanthropy, moving beyond traditional models to create equitable partnerships that challenge existing power structures in funding, with a focus on community empowerment and addressing the affordable housing crisis. This role will be integral to advancing REACH’s mission of providing affordable housing and services to those in need.
As a member of the executive leadership team, the Head of Philanthropy will collaborate closely with the CEO and leadership on assessing financial risks and opportunities within the organization’s operating budget. Additionally, this role will contribute to shaping the organizational culture, structure, and strategic direction as REACH continues to grow and make a meaningful impact on housing policy and development in Portland and beyond.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (“Must-Haves”)
- At least 10 years of proven success in nonprofit fundraising, particularly in major gifts, grants, individual giving, corporate partnerships, and foundation relations
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute long-term, sustainable fundraising strategies that align with organizational goals and drive growth
- Proven track record of cultivating and managing relationships with high-level donors, foundations, corporations, and government entities
- Successful experience leading multi-million-dollar capital campaigns and securing large-scale government or institutional funding
- Strong dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion in fundraising, with a focus on building inclusive donor networks and fostering partnerships that reflect REACH’s mission
- Exceptional ability to convey REACH CDC’s mission and impact compellingly to various audiences through both written and verbal communication
- Experience in effectively managing and mentoring development teams, with a demonstrated capacity to lead, inspire, and drive performance
