The Director of Marketing and Digital Content Strategy in Brown’s Office of University Communications (OUC)
guides strategy and content development for a portfolio of multi-channel marketing communications campaigns and projects that sustain and
build the University’s global engagement among a range of constituents. The Director is a creative and entrepreneurial communications
professional who leads digital content and social media strategy for the University’s central email and social media platforms,
including providing tools and guidance for social media managers in departments across the University for effectively maintaining their
social media presence to achieve their goals.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Marketing Communications, the Director of
Marketing and Digital Content Strategy oversees a team of marketing staff responsible for producing creative video, photography, social
media, and digital marketing strategy and content to engage the campus community, current and prospective students and their families,
stakeholders across the state and region, and the many audiences around the globe interested in the activities of Brown.
Working with
their team and other teams within OUC, the Director of Marketing and Digital Content Strategy guides marketing strategies and services for a
centrally-funded portfolio of University departments that advance Brown’s core education and research mission, while also delivering a
high volume of fee-for-service marketing work to a range of academic and administrative units across Brown. The Director leads their
marketing staff in collaboration with other teams within an integrated University Communications operation of more than 40 marketing and
communications professionals to deliver cohesive marketing strategies and high-quality deliverables for these academic and administrative
partners. The Director guides collaboration to develop and implement communications solutions that integrate content strategy and editorial
development, visual identity and multi-platform visual design, multimedia, digital and social media advertising, web and digital
communications strategy and front-end development.
The Director remains aligned with best practices to deliver innovative,
high-impact communications to meet the evolving needs of the University and campus partners.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field.
Preferred: Advanced
degree.
Minimum 7 years of experience in strategic marketing role in a fast-paced environment.
Proven experience overseeing
multi-channel content production, especially multimedia and social media.
Demonstrated success managing social media platforms for
higher education, business, political or other clients.
Familiarity with laws and statutes governing privacy, copyright, fair use and
other areas of intellectual property as it pertains to distributing content.
Professional experience planning and executing digital
marketing campaigns with
measurable results to advance the goals of an organization.
Demonstrated
experience analyzing and reporting on digital marketing metrics, including proficiency developing dashboards and/or other mechanisms for
tracking performance indicators.
Experience working in a creative environment.
Experience with online collaboration tools for
project management a plus.
Background in higher education or a complex non-profit organization preferred.
Strategic thinker
with a track record of successful execution and implementation of complex communication strategies and projects across digital and media
platforms.
Expertise in developing effective messaging tailored to audiences, including extensive knowledge of applying strategic
communications and messaging.
Superb verbal and written communication skills.
Extensive knowledge of print and digital
marketing principles, including data analytics to assess key performance indicators.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a
fast-paced, high-volume environment; proficiency in managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Strong visual aesthetic.
Demonstrated analytical skills and business acumen.
Broad interest in and understanding of higher education issues.
Excellent management skills, including the ability to inspire staff members.
Proficiency with the full Microsoft Office Suite.
Must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
This position is
classified as hybrid-eligible. The position requires working occasional nights and weekends for high-profile University activities and
events.
