Overview:

Position Summary and Purpose: Provides direct oversight of the 3PL (Third Party Logistics Provider) relationship. Takes a holistic approach to inventory, warehousing, and freight management; to reduce costs, and improve processes, in a multi plant environment. Utilizes several metrics, to track performance. Upon full implementation of the 3PL relationship, will take on added logistics related responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

• Recommend optimal transportation modes, vendor selection, routing, equipment and frequency
• Plan and implement material flow management systems to meet production requirements; plan and implement continuous improvement activities
• Work with assembly and engineering to optimize packaging, while reducing the potential of freight damage
• Create ISO policies or procedures for logistics activities
• Train shipping, receiving, and material handling personnel
• Maintain metrics, reports, process documentation, customer service logs
• Implement specific customer requirements, such as internal reporting or customized transportation metrics
• Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports or exports, or customer issues
• Participate in carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, or performance evaluation
• Obtain and renew required export licenses; monitor product import or export processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements
• Participate to resolve any legal issues pertaining to transportation and freight
• Evaluate balance between transportation costs, inventory costs and service levels
• Ensure carrier compliance with company policies or procedures for product transit or delivery
• Direct distribution center operation to ensure achievement of cost, productivity, accuracy, or timeliness objectives
• Negotiate transportation rates and services
• Negotiate with suppliers or customers to improve supply chain efficiency or sustainability
• Recommend purchase of new or improved technology, such as automated systems
• Develop risk management programs to ensure continuity of supply in emergency scenarios
• Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems or processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting, or shipping
• Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers
• Direct inbound or outbound logistics operations, such as transportation or warehouse activities, safety performance, or logistics quality management
• Analyze all aspects of corporate logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or supplies
• Direct or coordinate comprehensive logistical or reverse logistical functions for product life cycles, including acquisition, distribution, internal allocation, delivery, recycling, reuse, or final disposal of resources.
• Communicate freight transportation information to customers or suppliers, using transportation management, electronic logistics marketplace, or electronic freight information systems, to improve efficiency, speed, or quality of transportation services
• Review global, national, or regional transportation or logistics reports for ways to improve efficiency or minimize the environmental impact of logistics activities
• Conduct or review environmental audits for logistics activities, such as storage, distribution, or transportation

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in logistics, business, management, industrial technology, engineering or supply chain management and minimum 7 years logistics management experience and minimum 5 years supervisory experience.
• Experience working with freight forwarders and managing multiple modes of transportation.
• Has worked with the HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule), to properly code products, for shipment.
• Proven ability to problem-solve, interpret financial data, create reports, estimate costs, create solutions, build relationships and lead teams.
• Strong negotiation and cross-functional interpersonal skills.
• System savvy, with ERP systems experience. Lean, ISO, and FDA exposure advantageous.

Skills and Abilities:

• Read, analyze, and interpret a variety of information, such as technical procedures, business correspondence, and governmental regulations furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Create business-level written correspondence and verbally present information to internal and external customers.
• Requires job related software skills, MS Office and the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
