Position Summary:
The Acute Therapy Quality Outcomes and Patient Safety Coordinator (QOPSC) is responsible for forward facing initiatives around Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes within the acute therapy department, as well as the organization as a whole. The QOPSC works at the department level, in collaboration with bedside staff and other unit leaders, to deliver effective, efficient, high-quality care. The QOSPC continuously evaluates care at the bedside for acute PT/OT/SLP, identifies gaps in processes and facilities process improvement activities to help improve patient outcomes. The QOSPC works in collaboration with all three disciplines to ensure evidence-based research is built into our day to day practice to ensure that all patients benefit from the latest innovations in the delivery of care. This individual, in collaboration with other quality and safety leaders, serve to increase the driving force and consistency of quality and safety at the department and unit level. The QOPSC will be the champion of Safe Patient Handling initiatives, taking lead on mobility data reports and assisting RN leadership at the unit level in safe patient handling education/competencies. In order to ensure the acute therapy staff are able to provide the best quality care possible as per above, the QOPSC will also act as lead department educator. In collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team, the QOPSC will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and/or developing education and ongoing competency training for the department. This will be done in collaboration with the appropriate discipline specific teams, as well as other unit specific QOCs, RN educators, and PSOs. This individual will oversee policy, procedure, and standard development and revision through evidence based practice changes. The QOPSC will primarily be responsible for analyzing reported incident information at the department level and assist leadership team in providing feedback to members and assisting them in identifying and addressing areas of improvement. The QOPSC will serve as a member resource on quality and patient safety matters, assist members of the team in the development of their patient safety evaluation systems, and help develop and present reports and educational/resource materials. The QOPSC assists in development and/or review/revision of policies and procedures for quality, patient safety, and performance improvement. The QOPSC will assist the supervisor and leads in rounding in patient care areas to support staff and champion Patient Safety.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Occupational Therapist (OT) License upon hire and Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years experience related field AndHas demonstrated success and active participation in hospital committees, student instruction and/or other like activities
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
– Good working knowledge of all aspects of Acute Care (PT/OT/SLP)
– Timely follow-up and accountability
– Highly organized with good attention to detail
– Must be extremely flexible with day to day workflows with ability to balance multiple tasks/projects while meeting organizational standards
– Highly motivated to collaborate with interdisciplinary team in the areas of patient safety and quality outcomes
– Demonstrates strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical and administrative staff
– Demonstrates solid time management skills, with ability to appropriately balance QOSPC duties with patient care duties
– Forward thinker with ability to see big picture
