We have an exciting new opportunity for a Human Resources Business Partner. working in our Pasadena, CA. office. The individual in this role is a part of the central Human Resources team, and is responsible for providing advisory support to assigned Departments and addressing a broad spectrum of HR-related needs from inception to completion through the coordination of resources both within and outside of the HR team. As the primary liaison between HR and assigned scientific Departments, this individual will form strong partnerships and maintain regular two-way communications with Department leaders and stakeholders, enabling proactive, thoughtful approaches to addressing Department-specific HR needs within the boundaries of Institution-wide HR policies, programs, and guidelines.
Essential Functions

• Anticipate and proactively plan for HR-related needs within responsible Departments
• Serve in an advisory capacity to managers and employees
• Meet regularly with leaders/representatives within assigned Departments to share information regarding HR programs and regular and ad-hoc initiatives, as well as, to consult on specific HR needs
• Conduct thorough, objective investigations, as needed, to determine precipitating factors of HR issues that are raised, both at the employee-level and larger scale matters
• Oversee the resolution of HR matters within assigned Departments, coordinating with colleagues across the HR team and other support functions as necessary to ensure appropriate solutions are in place and supported by relevant policies and procedures
• Provide input to management regarding recruiting and retention, talent management, employee relations, opportunities for rewards and recognition, and legal compliance, consulting with specialists within HR and legal as needed
• Lead and/or support annual HR processes such as open enrollment, annual compensation planning, and performance management
• Recommend and coordinate HR-related trainings as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in a professional HR position
• 2+ years of experience as an HR Business Partner preferred
• Experience working in a research organization or non-profit preferred
• Additional HR training or certifications a plus
• Familiarity with Ceridian Dayforce HRIS system preferred

• Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and written and verbal communication skills
• Project management and organizational skills, with superb attention to detail
• Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to learn labor and employment laws
• Strong negotiation skills
• Ability to interpret human resources guidelines and procedures
• Discretion and ability to handle confidential or sensitive information tactfully
• Team player with a customer service focus and an aptitude for problem solving
