Carney Sandoe is looking for a Director of Development at a non-sectarian, independent, college preparatory school in the Augusta area located on a beautiful, fifty-five acre campus near the boundary of Richmond and Columbia counties. The school maintains a long-standing reputation for academic excellence and is one of only eight Cum Laude Society schools and the only Malone Scholar School in Georgia. Small classes allow faculty to individualize many aspects of a challenging academic program and to engage students in the classroom and beyond.

Director of Development

The Director of Development, who reports to the Head of School, is responsible for the planning, implementation and management of fundraising efforts of the school and for developing new revenue streams and funding opportunities. Responsibilities broadly include donor cultivation, major gift solicitation, annual giving, communications, and oversight of special events.

Position Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and spearhead fundraising efforts including capital and annual giving campaigns, Georgia GOAL scholarship, major gifts and planned gifts, foundation efforts and corporate sponsorships.
• Cultivate new and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of school constituents: parents, alumni, faculty, grandparents, former parents and board members
• Supervise the Assistant Director of Development by defining responsibilities, overseeing work activities, providing appropriate training, mentoring and ensuring high productivity.
• Serve as ex-officio member of the Board Development Committee and Trusteeship Committee, and work closely with the Development Committee Chair. Attend other Board Committee meetings as needed.
• Research and prepare grant submissions and coordinate the grant process for ongoing funding requests
• Ensure the processing and acknowledge of all gifts as outlined by the school’s gift policy
• Prepare and administer an approved department budget
• Oversee the management of the school’s special events and alumni programs.
• Work collaboratively with the business office to organize and understand funding priorities
• Work collaboratively with the admissions and communication offices to have a highly functional advancement strategy for the school
• Serve as a school administrative liaison to the Prep Family Association and Booster Club.

Serve as a member of the senior leadership team, bringing expertise to innovate, create, and reimagine the school’s philanthropic efforts.

Qualifications Sought

• Bachelor’s degree
• A minimum of five years professional development experience
• Ability to work with a broad spectrum of people (donors, volunteers, Board members, staff, etc.) and to inspire involvement with development activities
• Outstanding leadership, interpersonal and volunteer development skills
• Knowledge and experience with special event planning and implementation
• Demonstrated success in fundraising field
• Experience with business and civic leadership
• Ability to take initiative and work independently while managing numerous projects. Must also be able to work as a part of a highly-functional leadership team.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is preferred
• Passion and understanding of independent education
• Willingness to pitch-in as a part of the school family when needed
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 – $116,325.95 per year
