Body Shop Manager – Summary

Develops business through insurance adjusters, customers, and other sources to meet desired sales volume. Responsible for shop operating profit and maintains customer satisfaction standards while controlling expenses. Directs the activities of body shop employees in performing body repairs, including meeting time schedules and productivity levels and maintaining quality standards.

Body Shop Manager – Essential Duties

• Responsible for the overall success in growing the body shop’s business by maintaining preferred insurance relationships, ensuring employees are hitting CSI goals, providing excellent customer service and by meeting delivery standards for vehicle repair.
• Hires, trains, motivates and monitors the performance of all body shop employees. Directs and schedules the work of all body shop employees.
• Monitors progress and completion of vehicles in the shop, ensuring that proper repair and safety procedures are maintained and followed without exception including hard stops that are consistently documented.
• Maintains high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality. Checks quality of completed work.
• Handles customer complaints immediately and according to shops guidelines.
• Monitors paper flow to ensure that all documents are accounted for, filled out completely and legibly and filed or distributed to the appropriate parties.
• Prepares final billing on a daily/weekly basis for accurate and timely repair orders.
• Establishes and maintains good working relationships with insurance adjusters.
• Establishes and maintains good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
• Monitors technicians’ daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records.
• Oversees parts department to ensure timely parts orders and availability.
• Responsible for ensuring that all safety standards are communicated and followed. Conducts necessary training. Ensures that proper safety equipment is available and being used properly.
• Keeps up with I-CAR Status and ensures that employees are taking classes and maintaining their appropriate status.
• Monitors the maintenance of paint booths, frame straightening equipment, and other large fixed assets to ensure long-term usage and value.
• Ensures that the work areas and customer waiting area are kept clean.
• Ensures shop maintains clean and professional appearance.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

Body Shop Manager Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Prefer certification or degree from a technical school or college.
• 7+ years body shop experience
• 2+ years as a Production or Body Shop Manager

• Must be able to read and write English to write estimates, communicate effectively to employees, to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as calculations, discounts, commissions, proportions and percentages.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• I-CAR Certifications as necessary for Shop Manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year
