JOB SUMMARY:
The Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for performing accounting and monthly close functions. This position manages tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, contract/grant reporting, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit preparation interfacing with key department heads and staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course in Business, Accounting or Finance. CPA preferred.
Experience:
Four to six years progressively responsible experience in the accounting field.
Description of Duties:
1. Represents the agency in a consistently professional manner, always modeling a commitment to the agency’s Mission and Values.
2. Ensures financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP and in compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures.
3. Manages assigned contracts, grants and fiscal related relationships to include preparing accurate monthly financial statements and invoices with supporting documentation, comparing expenses to contracted budgeted amounts for variances within contract terms, and answering inquiries made by contract/grant managers and other staff.
4. Assists with managing Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions including the processing of cash receipts, invoices, and cash disbursements.
5. Responsible for journal entry preparation, processing and review.
6. Completes bank account and credit card account reconciliations.
7. Completes balance sheet account and income statement reconciliations.
8. Works closely with Human Resources personnel ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll disbursement and benefits.
9. Assists with annual audit processes and information gathering.
10. Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory to transactions.
11. Ability to work accurately with numerical detail.
12. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
13. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with CAPC employees at all levels, program and client staff, and others during the course of work.
14. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints and respond appropriately in a timely manner.
15. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
16. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and develop valid conclusions to provide optimal solutions with support.
17. Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of practical problems.
18. Ability to answer questions and present information to clients, partners, and management appropriately and effectively.
19. Prepares budgets and forecasts with financial and profitability analysis on a requested basis.
20. Other duties, both program specific and CAPC related, as assigned.
