Inspects the construction, repair and alteration of City and County owned buildings of limited size and scope for compliance with plans, specifications, building ordinances, and other established standards; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancy:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Design and Construction, Facilities Division. Duties include, but are not limited to, inspecting general phases of construction of public buildings, parks, and appurtenances of limited scope and complexity, in order to assure that the material, workmanship, and finished product are in compliance with plans, specifications, contractual documents, established standards, pertinent rules and regulations, and laws.
Special Work Requirements: Most of the work is performed outside of a normal City office environment. Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather and hazardous conditions at construction sites. May be required to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time. May be exposed to heights. Safety practices and procedures are used. Employee is required to provide personal vehicle for regular job transportation and will be compensated at the established bargaining unit rates.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to a high school education. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising a variety of building construction work.
Desirable Experience:
Experience with dealing tactfully and effectively with the general public (e.g. contractors, customers, vendors, community, etc.). Computer experience using word processing and spreadsheet.
Substitution:The following will substitute for the required experience:
An Associate’s degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.
A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
