Job Summary:
The position is responsible for various routine and complex clerical, accounting, finance, and administrative work in assisting the Treasurer/Collector with the duties and responsibilities of the Treasurer’s Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision Received
Under the general direction of the Treasurer/Collector, the employee plans and prioritizes the majority of work independently, in accordance with standard practices and previous training. The employee is expected to solve most problems of detail or unusual situations by adapting methods or interpreting instructions accordingly. Instructions for new assignments or special projects usually consist of statements of desired objectives, deadlines, and priorities. Technical and policy problems or procedure changes are discussed with the Treasurer/Collector.
Supervision Exercised:
The supervisor assures the accomplishment of the assigned work in the prescribed manner. In addition, the incumbent gives advice and instruction on administrative and work matters.
Confidentiality:
The incumbent has regular access at the departmental level to various confidential information, including personnel records, lawsuits, and client records.
Education and Experience:
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of public accounting and auditing principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable Massachusetts General Laws regarding finance. Experience with MUNIS or other public financial software systems is a plus.
Skill: Excellent organizational skills. Excellent data processing skills in using personal computers and office software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications, and internet applications.
Ability: Ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and appropriately. Ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to maintain, manage, and organize records. Ability to deal appropriately with City employees, officials, and disgruntled public members.
Working Conditions:
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting. In addition, incumbents may be required to work beyond regular business hours in response to emergencies or to attend evening meetings.
Physical Skills: Minimal physical demands are required to perform most of the work. The work principally involves sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. May be required to lift objects such as files, boxes of papers, office supplies, and office equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
Motor Skills: Duties are primarily mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects and using office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, handheld technology, and other office equipment.
Visual Skills: Visual demands require routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.

Pay: $65,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
