Target Hiring Range: $13.88/hr – $15.49/hr
Essential Job Functions:
Assist library patrons at the circulation desk, checking out and checking in library materials.
Register patrons.
Create and edit patron account records.
Assist the public in person and on the phone.
Provide general Library information & general assistance.
Collect statistics.
Collect fines & fees and perform simple accounting duties.
Check in serials, handle minor mending, and replace barcodes.
Assist in locating materials on the shelves.
Assist in maintaining the order of collection.
Assist in returning library materials to the shelves.
Minimum Education & Work Experience : High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) Up to 1 year related experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Knowledge – Abilities & Skills:
Education/ Experience:
Up to 1 year advanced study or training beyond the high school level
1-2 years retail or office support experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Basic skills in PC and systems application
Good customer service and telephone etiquette skills
Good oral and written communications skills
Ability to multitask
Ability to adapt to various working environments
Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
Ability to work under close supervision
Knowledge of library organization and cataloguing systems
Ability to organize materials according to alpha and numeric system

Licenses & Certifications: Valid Class C Texas driver’s license Physical Tasks & Working Conditions: The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The incumbent works in a typical library environment but some physical labor is required. Occasional outdoor work, and travel between city and library facilities may occur. Primary environment will be in a climate controlled, indoor atmosphere with some exposure to dust and occasional unpleasant conditions. The employee may interact with upset members of the public while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures Physical tasks include lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies, as needed, to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis. Must be able to reach materials at 90” height shelving or shelving at floor level, lift/ carry up to 50 pounds infrequently, and push/pull 200 pound wheeled book cart. Must also be able to utilize keyboard and peripherals, handheld mobile devices, and multi-function office phones. REQUIRED WORK HOURS: The incumbent is required to work 19 hours per week, with varying hours, as needed to support operations. Hours include 9:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 10:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. Sundays. REQUIRED WORK LOCATIONS: The incumbent must be available to work at any of the four (4) Garland Library locations.
