The functions typically performed by the Irrigation Maintenance Technician include the following:
Leads a work crew, conducts job specific training, coordinates work assignments with crew, reviews finished work and oversees worksite safety.
Monitors and maintains City owned irrigated landscape.
Operates tractors, water trucks, skip loaders, trenchers, and other light and medium duty equipment.
Maintains irrigation schedules on Calsense controllers and standalone controllers.
Tests, replaces and repairs irrigation backflow equipment.
Repairs and or replaces damaged drinking fountain, irrigation main lines, heads, valves, master valves and related wiring.
Record and prepares reports related to areas of assignment.
May fill in during the absence of supervisor.
Assists and leads in the completion of special projects as required.
Qualification Guidelines
Education
High School diploma or recognized equivalent.
Experience
Four years of related work experience in park maintenance, building construction and other public service activities.
Certifications
Possession of or ability to obtain an American Water Association Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester certification within six (6) months of appointment.
Licenses
Valid Class C California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment. As a condition of continued employment in this position, you must obtain a valid Class A CA driver’s license prior to completion of probationary period (6 months).
Special Requirement
Will be required to return to work during non-business hours in an emergency situation to perform work on a scheduled stand-by assignment.
