This is important, part-time, summer, non-professional library support work assisting in various phases of municipal library operations. An employee in this class is able to provide excellent library patron services and support services in a highly technological environment. Work involves participation on one or more of the centralized teams at the Main Community Library, including the Acquisition Services, Adult Services, Borrower Services and Youth Services teams of personnel that serve Main Community Library customers, as well as support for the 7-site municipal library system. Work includes following patron-driven procedures and schedules for promptly making materials available to the community. Work includes extensive use of the library system’s integrated library system (ILS), contact with community members, including, but not limited to, lending and reserving library materials, registering library patrons, updating patron accounts, locating materials, answering basic informational questions, assisting with basic computer and public catalog searches, maintaining records and cash handling. The position requires the exercise of outstanding customer service skills, including courtesy, discretion and tact, in a fast-paced environment, while multi-tasking. An employee in this class is expected to perform independently following a reasonable amount of training and orientation.
The work schedule may vary, and assignments are primarily at the Main Community Library, but will include assignments throughout the library system as scheduling necessitates; the hours typically include mornings, along with some evenings/nights and weekends. This is 8 weeks, summer employment including, but not limited to, summer reading program assistance for youth and families. There is a variable start date from late May – July to approximately late July – September.
Salary: $15.00 – $21.50 Hourly (approximately 20 hours per week)
