DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Which are not in any hierarchical order)
1. Lead worker in coordinating the maintenance and disposal of Department of Public Works fleet and equipment in cooperation with Fleet Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, and Warehouse.
2. Supports and actively promotes the City’s safety programs.
3. Maintains the inventory of fleet vehicles, dumpsters, carts and other general issue equipment, including maintaining container inventory in asset management software as needed.
4. Schedules preventive maintenance at regular intervals, maintains and tracks fleet maintenance requirements.
5. Schedules and tracks fleet repairs resulting from accidents, incidents and normal wear and tear.
6. Ensures recordkeeping and accountability for vehicle and equipment maintenance records, and inventory of general issue equipment.
7. Maintains and tracks equipment and supply inventory; maintains and rotates sufficient stock of frequently used supplies to ensure cost-effective operations.
8. Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability and delivery schedule and selects products for purchase by testing, observing or examining items.
9. Maintains inspection and repair records for the Department of Public Works fleet and supply inventory.
10. Transports supplies from Fleet Maintenance and the Warehouse to the Public Works storage area (forklift use may be required).
11. Coordinates maintenance repairs on the two-way radio system (both hand-held and vehicle).
12. Coordinates and schedules repairs and installations for the Sanitation vehicle camera system.
13. Assists with vehicle breakdowns, to include coordinating with drivers and Fleet for towing needs, transporting alternate vehicles to sites as needed and waiting with broken down vehicles as necessary.
14. Produces and sends routine reports to Public Works Superintendents.
15. Proactively researches alternatives for Public Works equipment.
16. Coordinating and scheduling training with vendors for staff on new equipment.
17. Assist Sanitation supervisors with pre-trip and post-trip inspections and prepare reports as applicable.
18. Maintains dumpster inventory
19. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Salary
$18.50 hourly – Pay grade 44
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in fleet management, inventory control or a related field is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A valid Florida Commercial driver’s license Class B is required.
Education Requirements: To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by:
a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or
b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or
c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or
d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above.
International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
Driving Requirements:
Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations or have had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.

State of Emergency: When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
