Job Description Summary:
The Planning Coordinator provides planning, research and analysis, and design and graphic support for the OSMP Planning and Design Workgroup for the development of routine to complex projects.
Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist with the development of OSMP Planning and Design Projects
Research, compile, organize, and analyze data and information for projects.
Organize, analyze, track and report on staff, stakeholder and community comments.
Track comments/revisions
Create and manage file structures to facilitate storage, retrieval, and versioning
Participates in public or staff workshops and meetings or other community engagement efforts.
Answer questions, record meeting minutes, may facilitate discussions.
Assist in preparation for meetings. Schedule and organize meetings, find venues, set up and organize equipment and meeting materials.
Assist with developing messaging for web updates and social media related to projects.
May lead select components within a larger planning project.
Performs site visits as necessary.
2. Provide design and graphical support to OSMP Planning and Design Projects
Support project managers through all design phases, including site analysis, conceptual and schematic design,
Develop plan graphics, reports, posters and other documents.
Use Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud to create graphic illustrations and renderings, develop maps, handouts, diagrams and other visual tools to convey complex information.
Prepare/create/mark-up AutoCAD drawings and details.
Provide basic Geographic Information System (GIS) support, including: producing maps using standard map templates, learn and stay up to date on internal GIS practices, systems and protocols, assist others in the Planning and Design Workgroup with GIS tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Planning Knowledge:
The Planning Coordinator is not expected to have directly related previous work experience but is expected to be knowledgeable of planning and design principles and have acquired planning and design related education and training.
Continuously updates skills, knowledge and planning methods.
Communication:
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships with, the public, consultants and employees at all levels of the organization.
Ability to write and present clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication means and styles.
Skilled at actively listening to concerns and is open to the ideas of colleagues and customers.
Ability to express ideas effectively, organize and deliver information appropriately.
Graphic Design:
Skilled in graphic communications.
Competent and recent experience working with Geographic Information System (GIS) software, including the ability to perform data capture, edits and quality control, create maps and other cartographic output using ArcGIS.
Proficient with computer design and graphics specifically working with the Adobe® Creative Cloud including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat, and other programs as applicable, to create graphic renderings of proposed designs and other visual communication tools.
Project Management Support:
Ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of complex information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in planning, landscape architecture, or a related field. One or more years’ experience working in the field of planning and design, especially for a public land management agency. Knowledge and understanding of the community. Competence and recent experience working with AutoCAD (AutoDesk®) software, including the ability to create and revise plans in support of all design phases. Competence and recent experience with three-dimensional rendering software.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. The Planner and Design Specialist is expected to have acquired planning and design related education and/or 2-4 or more years of previous experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Primarily works in an office environment but will occasionally work in an outdoor environment year-round. Occasionally works select nights or weekends to attend and participate in board, council, or community engagement events.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical Demands and Mental Effort:
Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting, carrying, walking and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; ability to communicate with employees and the public. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/or operating a keyboard. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.
Work Environment:
Primarily works in a clean, comfortable office environment, but may also work in an outdoor environment year-round. When working outdoors may be exposed to dangerous wildlife (e.g., rattlesnakes, mountain lions, stinging insects) and dangerous weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, lightning).
Machines and equipment used include, but are not limited to the following:
Frequently uses standard office equipment including personal computers, calculators, cell phones, and copy machines; vehicles including four-wheel drive vehicles; a range of field measurement equipment.
